I stayed in this hotel for 26 days and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The beds were comfortable, the room was cozy, and the hotel provides every service you'll ever need (from a general store (THREE of them) and clothing departments to high-class restaurants and everyday food courts). The JR is right across the way and the Mita subway station is just a fifteen minute walk down the road. There are only a few things I recommend not doing: 1) getting laundry cleaned is incredibly expensive 2) a few of the food court stands aren't very good (the takoyaki, the ramen, and the crepes were the ones I tried and liked - the Chinese one not so much) and 3) don't forget to call the maids in the morning (their English isn't very good and they are very eager to clean for you and so it's hard to explain to them that you're not interested). But I digress. Shinagawa Prince Hotel is even at the perfect location. You can take a straight shot to Asakusa via the Asakusa subway line, you can walk to Tokyo Tower if you're up for a morning or evening jog, and you can get to fashion hubs like Harajuku or Shibuya super easily by the JR. I'm looking forward to going back.
best for the price

This hotel at a great location right across from most subway lines and rail line to Kyoto. For kids cheap eats McDonalds & Starbuck in the area. The hotel includes a pool, bowling alley, arcade, cafe, stores and an aquarium. My kids 8 and 16 loved it and being from NYC - they don't say this unless they really mean it.

I stayed here one night in the East Tower which is for single travelers. It is very close to the Shinagawa JR Rail staion. It took about 5 minutes to walk with no stairs, there are ramps along the way. The room was compact as is Japan style. Well equiped with locking closet, refridgerator, and bath. The bed was a little thin with only one small pillow which is standard for Japan, but that is what cost it in ratings. Simple, functional, and close to the rail station. If you have a friend that can read Japanese and can book it locally you can get the room a little cheaper.
Great for those new to Tokyo

Great location, the train station is about 2 minutes walk from the hotel. Clean, great service, safe. Recommended for anyone who can afford it. And the hotel-airport shuttle makes it very convenient to/from airport also.
