Pleasant Surprise

I was somewhat hesitant about booking the hotel based on one of the reviews, however the review turned out to be unfounded. The value for the price is a bargain. My room had an excellent view of the Pearl so enjoying a quiet evening was very memorable. The hotel is within walking distance of several attractions including line 2 of the subway so moving around the city is convenient. If you prefer taxi's, the staff was always very helpful in having one ready for you. I would highly recommended staying here while in Shanghai.

Nice hotel, but need some improvements.

The Good: Very reasonable priced hotel, blocks away from Nanjing Road East and subway station, get the room without the breakfast.. Wonderful street food available within a block of the hotel. Experience a real Shanghai neighborhood around the hotel. Wonderful Chinese food at the fancy restaurant on the 4th floor. Comfortable room and supportive bed. Two blocks away from Qipu Road, cheap shopping area. Needing improvement: Room carpet needs a good cleaning. Lots and lots of weddings booked for the hotel's restaurants. So if you want to eat at the hotel, some nights you will be out of luck. Beware of internet charges that are difficult to understand. Make sure you carry the hotel's taxi card, most taxi drivers don't know where the hotel is located.

Bring slippers to walk in your room

Checked in January 9th 2008. Room is standard size. Carpet is nasty. Odd stains on some of the furniture. Neighborhood at night seems dicey. This may have been a 4 star hotel once...but I think it at best a 3 star....and that is only true if you have had a few drinks before checking in. T.V. says it has certain English channels like CNN, ESPN, HBO etc....but they are not working. Only Chinese channels seem to be working. Bed is hard as a rock...which I like, but not everyone does. Pillows are o.k., climate control is o.k. 24 hour internet access cost 100 RMB a day, which is about $15 u.s. I will have additional information after the sun comes up and I will report back how the area looks in daylight.

I was there for three days in mid October. Good location and only a few blocks for the famous Nanjing Rd. and train station.

Very pleased

Spent 3 nights. Very pleased right from the start. Staff is more than willing to help with any problems you might have, including taxis, check in was a breeze, also finding entertainment and different venues was so easy. Room's were clean, neat, large enough to fit a small army and loaded with all the regular amenities. The only things i could have asked for was that fabric softener be used on the towels and that the massage prices in the hotel would be a little more reasonable. Other than that I would definitely stay in this hotel again. PS it's neighbor is the Yuyuan gardens and a 10 minute walk from Nanjing Road and 15 from the French Concession. RIght in the middle of everything. Also very secure, you can't reach the rooms of the hotel via the elevator without a key. Plus Staff work 24/7 to make you feel at home.
