Don't waste your money!

The carpets were filthy, covered with a black soot that was slightly disguised by the color of the carpet. Our 10-month old son, who loves to crawl, was covered with black soot/dust after only being confined to the living room for 10 minutes. We asked for a crib, they gave some old (cold) metal crib that had a poor mattress and old bedding. We finally bought a play pen to get a decents night sleep; however, that didn't solve anything because we had to get up every hour to adjust the temperature knob on the wall unit. They are allegedly a timeshare, but the standard timeshare has a THERMOSTAT!!! The room didn't have a dishwasher or icemaker like most timeshares, either. When we checked out, my husband asked for the Manager to complain about the dingy carpet, so he took a handtowel that had the black soot on it. When he asked for the Manager, the Manger's WIFE came out to assist. My husband asked her when the carpets had been clean last, and showed her the towel, she just said, "I'm not in housekeeping, and YOU'LL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE TOWEL". She then walked away, and never apologized for the filthy carpets or the fact that we were not even somewhat satisfied with their dump! We ruined a pair of crib shoes, a pair of PJ's, several socks, and pants, and she had the nerve to charge us for a handtowel. We would have been better off staying at Motel 6, then this dive! I've never seen such a poorly managed, filthy dump in my life! Oh, if you hate smoke, don't go in any of the entrances that say "No Smoking" because that's where the employees go.

Arizona Adventure

This was the beginning of an Arizona Adventure, through Internal International, that included Tucson, Payson and Sedona. We stayed here for two nights. It was very new and quite suitable. The staff was very friendly and the pool and spa were great. Our two rooms were nicely decorated and looked out to the Sonora Desert. It is located past the University of Arizona and was located great for travels to the desert, etc. We visited Old Tucson, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, and Desert, as well as the Mission San Xavier del Bac.

It was a pleasure to stay at this timeshare affiliate. We saw it in our Interval International book and decided to stay there. It was our nicest experience since we have coming to Tucson, AZ. We travel to Tucson to see family every year for the past 10 years and this was the most pleasant experience for accommodations.

Varsity Club, ILX Resorts

Varsity Club, ILX Resorts

We belong to this group of resorts. Since our membership allows us to use the facilities (exercise room, pool, spa) for free and gives us a 20% on meals, we thought we’d check it out.

We came here twice during our time in Tucson. Besides being an ILX resort, it’s one of the Varsity Clubs of America, catering to ASU alumni and events for ASU Wildcats in training. The resort also houses the largest off-campus collection of Pac-10 memorabilia in the state. If you’re as zero of a sports nut as I am, you’ll be saying, “What’s that?” Well, it stands for Pacific-10, and is in partnership with Fox Sports Net television to promote sports, what else? Their trademark is Conference of Champions®, and they are into conferencing, marketing, merchandising, and handling special events. There are paintings of people engaged in sports all over the high walls of the lobby.

Their exercise room was small, with two treadmills, two cross trainer machines, and some resistance equipment but very few free weights. One of the cross trainers was squeaking annoyingly, but got my heart rate up to the desired level (160) pretty quickly. Bob didn’t spend too much time in the exercise room because his back was bothering him, so spent more time outdoors in the spa and pool. There is also a steam room, but neither of us used it.

We had an excellent combo pizza at Joey’s although the service wasn’t exactly with a smile. Maybe she was having a bad day. We ended up enjoying our pizza with a glass of beer outside on the shaded patio overlooking the pool area. One area in which we were very pleased was information given to us by the manager. When he learned we were planning our first trip to San Carlos, Mexico, he gave us lots of very helpful information and maps of Nogales, San Carlos, and Sonora state. In addition to the amenities described above, Varsity Club has conference facilities, a cactus garden, library, putting green, and billiards.

Although we didn’t stay there overnight, as members, we have floor plans of the suites available. “Gold” is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom, 975-square-foot suite with separate living room, kitchenette, and dining area. “Silver” has one bedroom, one bath, a vanity area, kitchenette and dining, in addition to a patio in its 660 square feet. The “Copper” studio, at 500 square feet, contains a combined living/sleeping area with couch, chair and coffee table at one end, kitchenette with dining area, and bathroom with shower. “Gold” and “Silver” bathrooms all have bath/shower combinations.
