Not Worth it; Save Yourself

I have stayed here twice now, and neither my wife nor I know why. The first time, there was an earthquake in Anchorage and we didn't even know it because Chelsea is THAT close to the train-tracks. We both woke up at the same time the news reported the quake, heard the train whistle blow, and went back to sleep muttering about the stupid train. I can sleep through a train if need be, so we opted to give it another try since it was the cheapest place in town. The second time, we were given a non-smoking room that smelled as if it had been a smoking room at some point and had never been properly renovated. It had no bathroom. (There was one in the center of the basement for all the rooms to share.) There was a creepy guy loitering outside and a disclaimer on the inside of the room-doors saying you should bring anything valuable inside to avoid theft. The service was terrible, slow, without so much as a glance much less a smile, though they did give us a different room when I brought the smell to their attention. The dive cost almost $* and we could have stayed somewhere else for $*. Both times, the carpet had not been vaccumed since their last customer had vacated. Trust me, ANYWHERE else would have been worth it. This place would be over-priced at fifty a night.

Where was I?

We booked at the Chelsea Inn Hotel in Anchorage on Spenard. When we got there, we were told we got upgraded to another site belonging to Chelsea. We had to make a U-turn to get to the other place. When we got there, there were kids running all over the place with water ballons, almost got hit, car did not escape. I wanted to do laundry, washer were old and one of the dryers did not function, so we had to wait till the next day to dry our load. While checking the laundry, a man tried to bum a cigarette. Bed covers had blood stains and nail polish. No internet service, microwave, or pots to heat water.

When all the hotels are TOO HIGH this one charges resonable. Yes, it's noisy but you have old fasioned cosy room, self-food service, clean room and bath, comfortable bed for normal price.
