My husband and I were visiting DC for a weekend in late October 2006, for the 31st Marine Corp Marathon. We chose this hotel because the rate was pretty good, and I had stayed at this property on business about a year ago and had a decent experience.
Check-in went ok, but I found out later that the front desk was supposed to present me with a bonus coupon upon check-in (bonus that was included with the rate). It turned out that I had to call after the stay and ask about the coupon. They mailed it to me after I inquired.
The stay itself... the rooms are ok, but not impressive. Extremely small bath area. We asked for a king room but got two doubles. We had a view of one of the Georgetown University playing fields, which was nice.
We were in town to run the marathon on Sunday morning, so we decided to eat dinner in the hotel Saturday night versus running around and using energy--we wanted low-key and rest. We were travelling with two other couples and we all went to the restaurant together. The service was not good, but everyone thought the food was ok. The place was almost empty, so we thought the service should have been more on-the-ball than we experienced.
Saturday evening I placed the breakfast order on the door for delivery at 6am. (Oh, it was the night to set the clocks back an hour). My husband and I were up early, getting ready to run this marathon (my first full marathon, his 12th). I was a little bit nervous but we'd been training for many months. Time came and went for the breakfast food to arrive, and nobody came. The phone rang, and it was room service saying that their cook did not report to work, so we would not be getting our breakfast order. Well, one thing about long distance running is that it uses up so much energy that one simply must eat well in order to endure. We hadn't made any other plans for morning nourishment, so we were angry. My husband explained that the situation wasn't acceptable, and asked them to put together something that didn't require much effort--like some pastries and bagels, for example. We ultimately did have some food provided, but it wasn't on time and it wasn't what we'd ordered.
The evening of the marathon, we were exhausted so decided to eat at the hotel again. This time the service was again poor, but so was the food (and cold).
Bill included the messed-up breakfast even though there was a guarantee for free. I had to call about that then got challenged about it and had to wait for the front desk to verify that our food order was late and not what we'd ordered.
Our stay at this hotel was quite disappointing, and I don't think I'd stay there again for business or pleasure.
