Marvelous retreat

I've been here twice - late September '08 and early November '08. Once with just my wife (for 3 days) and when we brought the kids (1 day). Both times were excellent. The staff is helpful but not annoying. They catch your eye when you need something, but otherwise leave you alone. The food at the pool is great and we had dinner here one evening. The multiple pools and slide are great attractions. Have breakfast outside so you can watch sunrise on the Catalinas. The rooms were spotless, the beds comfortable, and the views phenomenal. It can be expensive, but off season they take some special rates - such as government and military - a bit over per diem. We paid less than half the rack rate. Stay here. It is worth it. Just remember it can be a bit of a walk to the pool and restaurants from your room. That's a plus in my book.

Great for business trips

Stayed 2 nights for a business trip. Hotel is located in nice area near foothills. Rooms are spaced out in several separate buildings away from the lobby. Make sure you get a room near the main entrance so you don't have to walk far. Pathways can be narrow and steep. They have golf carts to get around if your room is too far, but a few got stuck or broke down. Staff at check-in was very friendly. Lobby is beautiful, with large windows facing out towards the mountains. There are several areas to gather and watch TV or relax. Hotel has many restaurants, didn't eat at these but was provided with hotel food at company dinner which was pretty good. Rooms were very clean, excellent bedding, and had a patio. Free in-room safe is a bonus, but the surcharge for a mini-fridge and internet access was shameful, these items are almost standard at budge hotels now. Items in the mini-bar are obviously overpriced. Ordered room service one night, food was delicious and well-prepared. Bathrooms were large and clean, with separate bathtub and a convenient robe. Was able to hear people walking on the pathway upstairs sometimes. Some reviews point out a problem with bugs, keep in mind the area surrounding the hotel is pretty much a "natural environment" (the patio door even warns about spiders and scorpions) so it's a good idea to put a towel or something by the door to keep the critters out. Pool is large and a great way to get out of the heat. A nice stay, definitely more worth it if on a business trip or you are not paying!

Not worth the money anymore.

I lived in Tucson for over 10 years and used to stay here just for a nice place to get away for the weekend, use the pool, etc. It was great back then. This stay was a big disappointment. The furniture in the room had stains on it, there were crickets and other bugs on the floor in the room, there was hair on the floor of the shower and the wall paper in the bathroom was peeling. At brunch, I was given a water glass with lipstick from the last persom who used it. The place has just gotten worn out and shabby and is definitely not worth the price.

Great View, look out for bugs

It was a beautiful place to stay, I especially recommend the Elizabeth Arden Spa. However, the curtains in the rooms were stained, we had cockroaches crawling around in our room, and the resort is so spaced out that they use the walkways to drive people around on golf carts. They drive so fast around the turns, I almost got hit by one.

Amazing Experience!!

My Wife and I got married at the Westin La Paloma. The entire staff was amazing! The banquet prices were reasonable and reception was top notch. The pools were great for our family and freinds to enjoy. The golf course, although pricey, was one of the best I've ever played. I've stayed there 2 times prior to our wedding the rooms have always been perfect. We would definitely recommend this resort to any one looking for a getaway in the Tucson Area.
