Christmas in New York

My wife, and three children (ages 14, 11, and 11) stayed at the Affinia Manhattan for 5 days before Christmas. The hotel is an older hotel, but is well maintained and in excellent condition. Our room was a two room suite with kitchenette and two bathrooms. It was perfect for a family. It was one of the few hotels in Manhattan where all five of us could stay in the same room without costing a fortune. We took the train from EWR and the train station for NJT was across the street at NY Penn Station. NYC subway stations were two blocks away. Macy's was two blocks away. Time Square was one subway stop away. I would recommend the Affinia Manhattan to friends and would stay there again when going back to NYC.

Affina Manhattan was above what I expected. The check-in staff was friendly, courteous, and most helpful. Check-in and check-out was easy and efficient. Our room was spacious for a NYC room (I have stayed in rooms where one could barely turn their body around) the bathroom was unbelievably clean and big.
The biggest plus was the central location to the hotel. It was so easy to get anywhere by foot or subway. The hotel was also tastefully decorated for the holidays. If I had to find one negative it would be the coffee - it wasn't good. However, the package did say that it was Wolfgang Puck brand so maybe others would like it. I was all set for around the corner were numerous coffee shops.
GREAT MIDDLE OF THE ROAD HOTEL

This was the first time we have been to Manhattan and was unsure about which hotel to stay in. The Affinia rooms are large compared to the average New York hotel room with a small kitchen and yes, a small bathroom. The rooms showed obvious wear including old carpeting etc., but the cleaning staff was great. The location couldn't be better! Right across from Penn Station means quick access to the subway and the NJ transit system. Very disappointed with the airport shuttle to the hotel,it took over 2 hrs from Newark and later learned a short train ride would have been quicker and alot cheaper. Even though we booked this through online travel website, paid in full prior to the trip, the hotel still charged me the full stay!! Staff was NOT easy to work with as they wanted reciepts etc. which I didn't have. Eventualy got my credit after putting it in dispute.

Hotel is great but housekeeping needs improvement!

I loved the junior one-bedroom suite in this hotel. It has a separate bedroom, living room (with sofabed) and small kitchen. Great for families with kids! The gym was great and the fact that they provided self-serve laundry was a major plus. The only thing I didn't like about the hotel was the housekeeping service. On more than one occasion, our room was not made up at all! Also, they consistently didn't leave any new shampoo or soap, so we'd have to go downstairs each night to ask for these amenities. Other than that, doormen were great, staff was great and room was great! I would definitely stay there again when I bring my family to NY, although I think I'd pick someplace else if I were traveling alone.
