Not the best, but still nice and quiet.

The Fairfield Inn of Traverse City was certainly not the nicest Fairfield I have stayed at, but it was not all that bad. The exercise room was not even clost to being sufficient. (The treadmill belt slips, and the weight system is cheap.) They do not have any in-room movies, but offer lots of channels.
The location is nice. The hotel is very close to the mall, restaurants, and downtown, but is set back off of the main road in what seems to be its own little nook. It is a pleasant setting that keeps it quiet and enjoyable.
The staff is very helpful and they are a delight to talk to. I would recomend this hotel if you are in town for an event, and will not be spending much time there. It is not my 1st choice for a weekend getway.

I highly recommend this hotel, as I believe it is the closest nicer hotel for those going to take thier kids to Interlochen Arts Academy/Camp/Center for the Arts.
I have now graduated two daughters from IAA, and I will always have fond memories of this hotel, because it never failed that there were IAA families in the lobby at breakfast. One could always tell the IAA families: the young person wearing a piece of a uniform, the anxious parents about to leave thier teen at a boarding school, the fidgity younger sibling not able to figure out how to stop the buzzer on the waffle maker.
But these families often came together in the lobby, and would chat over morning coffee, compare stories, talk about how lovely the campus is, talk about the previous nights performance.
The hotel staff never rushed anyone out of the breakfast area, even if it was getting over crowded with teens in light blue/dark blue uniforms. Many times, the front desk staff would remember me, and welcome me back with a handshake, or even a hug.
The driveway can be daunting during December, but take the time to learn the short cut off Airport road, where you can turn left at the next light, and cut through the Sam's Club lot. Also handy to have a Cracker Barrel and another Mexican restaurant within walking distance, if you didn't want to drive anywhere for dinner.
I'm sorry I won't have an occasion to return to Traverse City. This hotel always made my 7 years worth of IAA travel up there very special.

Shortly after my wife and I settled into our room for the evening, my wife noticed what can be nicely described as "fecal splatters" inside the toilet, yet neither of us had used it for those purposes. Mildew was also found under the soap dish in the shower and rust covering the door frame. The carpets were very worn and two ceiling joists were popping out near the window. The staff at the front desk told my wife in a conceited tone that they could, "...find a room that meets your standards." Well, Fairfield, how high do my standards have to be to check into a room without poop stains in the toilet from the previous guest?

All staff members were friendly and helpful. There were crisp white duvets on the beds. The free continental breakfast was extensive, and included make-it-yourself waffles, as well as the usual breads, cereals, whole fruits and yogurts. You couldn't really walk anywhere from the hotel, but the location outside town was convenient for visiting Interlochen Center for the Arts (20-25 mins by car) and the hotel gives pre-printed driving directions for getting there. Traverse City is about 10 mins in the other direction.
