The best place to stay in San Francisco

I've stayed here every year since 2002 for my annual visit to San Francisco and plan to stay there again this fall. The room I get every year is large, has a refrigerator and microwave, a huge shower, nice furniture and is very well kept. The neighborhood is off the beaten path but numerous bus line stop within a block, and two stop right on the corner. I've always found the staff to be helpful and friendly. They are renovating all the rooms and I'm eager to see how much nicer it will be when it's done (it was nice already!). There's a Trader Joe's one block in one direction and a nice neighborhood deli one block in the other direction. Free parking and computer access in the business center are additional pluses. I'd never stay anywhere else in San Francisco..

The Worst Western

What a dump. Mind you, the place was under construction, which I can accept, but when you wake up and you feel like you're in the movie, THE POSIDEIN ADVENTURE something is wrong. Our room flooded. Don't want to get into too many details, but it was from the bathroom. I wish I had stayed in a hotel called the Vagabond across the street.

Cholera, typhoid or worse

Toilet flooded not only the bathroom, but soaked the carpet ruining my clothes and bag. Had to check out at 5:30am. Staff is clueless and just stares at you. He wouldn't even give us quarters to do my laundry. No one assumes responsibility and they lack common customer service skills. Apparently, other rooms were also experienced their toilets flooding their bathrooms. And, as we all know, unsanitary conditions can lead to cholera, typhoid and death

Sleep on the streets before staying here.

Our room flooded with water from the toilet in the middle of the night. We were forced to leave our room at 4:00am in the morning.

It is quite nice to find a best western in busy areas and know that it will deliver to your expectations. we had similar expectations when we booked at the best western civic center inn. this hotel is just a short distance away from union square and all other downtown shopping areas. it is located near the civic center and is also very close to city hall and san francisco library. like most best western properties, you can expect great amenities and customer service. the rooms are nice and clean and provide what you'll need. the front desk was nice and helpful to us in providing directions and tips about the city. An extra added benefit to this hotel was the free parking that it provided, that also in the middle of downtown where parking garages charge a handful. Also the hotel provided continental breakfast and wireless internet was always more than useful. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel to people looking to stay in the civic center / downtown region of the city.
