Description: Another sisters' weekend in Williamsburg found us again staying at the Powhatan Plantation Resort. My sister again was able to secure a private rental here for a decent price. This resort is one that is currently under renovation and from what I've read in the timeshare forums, it has been a bit piecemeal and at this point remains incomplete.
The unit that we had was the upper which meant no jacuzzi hot tub and a different layout from what we had back in May 2009. There was a nice sized deck off the living room, however. I have to say, while the accommodations were adequate for the three of us, they just didn't seem to be a nice as what we had before.
As a two bedroom unit, the master bedroom was actually designated as the room with the queen sized bed and a shared bath (the bath that is accessible from the living area). The second bedroom was very spacious with a king sized bed and a private bath. This room however, as the second bedroom had no television.
The living/dining room area was spacious and included a gas fireplace. The open area from the kitchen over a counter bar dining area was very nice to enable conversation while meal preparation was being done. The "skinny mini" laundry machines were in a closet in the main living area.
In general, the kitchen was well equipped although a detailed inventory had to be done to assure everything was in the unit so as to avoid being charged for missing items. From what I was told, there were some items missing that housekeeping had to bring in.
This is a nice resort that has a lot of on-site activities. Last time we were here it was just before the summer season so the outdoor pool was not yet open. In the middle of a hot July, however, the pool was open and jammed with families and lots of kids. There were also a lot of folks enjoying the mini-golf that is adjacent to the pool.
We did stop by the activities area on the lower level of the restaurant (where in indoor pool is also located). They have a handball court down there and a concierge desk with someone willing to help plan activities off-site. They also had a cabinet full of board games and puzzles should the kids (or adults) grow restless in the condo.
All in all, the timeshare unit served the purpose for our time in Williamsburg. While I would stay here again, I would be somewhat particular as to the unit I would rent.
