When you walk into the front door, you see where they spent their money. The crystal chandeliers, colorful hand blown glass flowers, marble statues and marble floors. You can really feel the opulence. The food at the Bellagio Cafe is excellent here as well. I had a $20.00 cheeseburger which I swear was the best burger I've ever had. I would definitely pay that again. The buffet is also good, but $40.00 is a lot for a buffet. The ever changing botanical gardens are beautiful and a must see for every visitor. Let’s not forget the fountains outside which are the main attraction. You'll never tire of the water ballet that happens every half hour later in the day till midnight. There is an art gallery which you can visit for a fee and also a great concierge service. The rooms are nicer than you'll expect. You immediately notice that they are bigger than your average hotel room in Vegas. The bed linens, sheets, and curtains are of higher quality than most other properties on the strip. Also there is marble flooring, a full-length mirror, a marble shower with seamless glass enclosure, duvets, electronic drapes, a flat-screen TV, and fully stocked mini bar in every room. You’ll pay anywhere from $259-$650 per night here depending on occupancy. Is it worth it? Probably not unless you’re trying to impress a girlfriend. Most people won't stay in their room long enough to enjoy the amenities. You can even stay for as low as $159.00 a night if you go on rare off peak days. I wouldn't plan my trip around that though because you'll find many attractions and entertainers on holiday those days. The hotel is top rated in cleanliness, service, and atmosphere. My advice is to eat at Bellagio, site see at Bellagio, gamble at Bellagio, but stay at one of its lower priced sister properties. You'll be just as happy with your room at MGM Grand or New York for half the price. Also stay away from the lake view rooms unless it’s a room with a balcony. You can't see the fountains that well from inside the glass in your room and won't be able to hear the music of the ballet. If you’re going to splurge, go all the way. Close

I always stay at the Penthouse (floorplan) here. I'd booked at the regular rate plus lakeview upgrade when I received a promotional offer from the Bell. For $499/night, I'd receive limousine pick-up, fresh flowers in-room, and VIP lounge access. There was an additional charge of $50/night for the lake view. Since the room can book for about $800/night, this was a great offer! The promotional rate was booked online, lakeview upgrade requested, and the original reservation cancelled.

While confirming the new reservation, I learned it was not showing up as lakeview due to lack of availability. This was an issue. I enjoy watching the fountains, but on July 4th, I wanted to see the fireworks on the strip, too! Amy-Jo, the reservations manager, was able to get my lake view confirmed before arrival. She received wonderful chocolate-covered strawberries in return for doing the impossible.

VIP check in was excellent, and although it was early, a rush was put on the room. In the meantime, I asked for a line pass to enjoy Sunday champagne brunch without waiting. The agent extended the pass for my entire stay, valid at the buffet and 24-hour cafe.

After brunch, I returned to the Lounge for my key and a complimentary beverage, then used the private, express elevator to reach my suite. The agent called ahead so the bellman was waiting with my bags. He started the ice maker in the room, got some ice to use in the meantime, stowed my bags, and offered to unpack. A maintenance person also stopped in to replace a lightbulb that I hadn't yet discovered was out. This is superior, 5-star service!

The room was amazing -- large, open, and perfect for entertaining. The fountain view was superb, and the show music could be heard by tuning to the proper TV channel. In fact, the view was so stunning I ordered room service and watched the fountains and fireworks over dinner.

The rest of my stay was just as perfect. I love the his (with steam shower) & hers (with jacuzzi tub & bidet) bathrooms, plus the additional powder room. The other features, like the refrigerator/freezer and electric curtains, add modern conveniences without overpowering the suite's charm.

The one missing touch is a high-speed internet connection in the suites. All regular rooms have been remodeled to match rooms in the new spa tower (scheduled to open in December), and since February, all feature broadband internet access. As a conciliation, invited guests can borrow complimentary laptops for use in the VIP lounge. Those machines are connected to the internet via wireless cards.

The Penthouse at the Bellagio is my top choice for luxury accommodations and the ultimate in service in Las Vegas. Close

It was a beautiful Italian building, it had the lovely fountains, it had Picassos, it was luxury. I lamented that I couldn’t spend the $350 a night to stay in such decadence – until I came across a $199 rate for a Thursday night (for a pool view). What luck, right?

Wrong. Why anyone would pay over $200 a night for a stay here baffles me. The room, while nice looking, was only “ok.” (The rooms at the 4-star Mandalay Bay were bigger and more bright and luxurious.) When I pulled up in the cab, I expected the bellman in their top hats to open my door for me and make me feel like royalty. I would have to fight them off to take my bag – well, there was no one in sight. After check-in, I got my key, and found the room, at least, I thought it was. There were dirty plates and glasses outside the door – could I be walking in on someone? Nope, the room was prepared and ready – and, unfortunately, ours.

I just shrugged it off as a fluke and went down to the pool. The pool area was huge, I counted at least five pools (one heated), but even in this vast area, there didn’t seem to be an open chair in sight. I asked one of the pool boys (is that a PC term?) to help, and he found a nice spot with 2 chairs, and set them up for us, using a towel to create a nice pillow for our heads. There were also plenty of waitresses in sight to bring us our $12 daquaris. We also ate lunch at the pool café, and our hamburger and chicken strips rang up another $37.

That night, as we lay our weary heads down, we were accosted by smells. First, a strong smell of sewage, and second, cigarette smoke wafting into our non-smoking wing. I guess exhaustion took over, because we let that one go, too.

When I woke up, I got more and more upset at the cumulative effect of all these flaws. At checkout the next morning, I called the manager’s desk to complain. He said there was nothing he could do, as we didn’t complain while it was happening. First, it’s a 5-star hotel, so we shouldn’t have to. Second, I surely didn’t want to be packing and changing rooms at 3 a.m. I complained again to the man who checked us out at the front desk, and he did manage to get our incidentals (the very expensive drinks and lunch) removed from our bill. Better than nothing, but not enough to make up for a crappy stay.

Next time, I’m staying at the Venetian or Mandalay Bay. Rating? 3 out of 10. Not worth the money. Close

It’s easy to see why this club would be a celeb favorite in Vegas, as Light is heavy on the fun.

The music from the club spills out onto the casino floor, but it’s the inside that brings Light to life. After you fork over your $30 cover (you can pay $20 extra for front-of-the-line passes) you’re ushered onto an escalator which takes you to the second floor. You can hear the music, much louder now, but you still can’t see the club! You roam down a dark, narrow hallway, where Light is at the end of the tunnel. If you can find a spot on the dance floor, snag it, because you might not get the chance again. This particular Thursday night the DJ was pumping out hip-hop hits, and turning down the volume so the dancers could shout with Gwen Stefani “B-A-N-A-N-A-S” (“Hollaback Girl”, for those of you that aren’t up on the dance tunes).

As with most of the new clubs, Light offers premium table service, for a premium price. You can get a table in the VIP area, or sit yourself right by the dance floor, which makes it easy to stumble back after busting a few moves. We, of course, couldn’t afford either of these options, so we made our way to the bar. Mixed drinks were $8 a piece, I heard someone else order a $5 beer – which, for the Bellagio, was a Kmart special price for a drink.

After about an hour and a half of non-stomp foot stompin’, we left back down the long hallway, and this time down to the first floor in an elevator. Throw in a little drunken slot playing, and the night was complete.

This was my favorite nightspot in Vegas. Why? Because everyone was having fun. The place was packed and had a very upscale Hollywood or hip New York feel about it. The music was great, audience participation rocked, and I didn’t have to watch scantily clad women dancing on the bar making me feel bad about myself. As I understand it, they do have dancers on other nights, but they are a bit more covered than usual. A 10 out of 10 rating if ever there was one for a nightclub. Close

This trip we wanted to spend part of a day with my ...Read more On a previous trip to Las Vegas we discovered the beauty of the Bellagio Fountains as viewed at night from the sidewalk. When I think of Las Vegas, that is the first image that comes to mind. This trip we wanted to spend part of a day with my nephew. I decided it would be fun to explore the rest of the Bellagio. Located in the heart of The Strip this elegant hotel/casino was inspired by Northern Italian buildings near Lake Como. Our first “oh, my” moment came when we entered the lobby and saw the Dale Chihuly art glass ceiling. The scale of the objects is massive. The art glass is formed into shapes similar to Morning Glories with a wide range of bold colors.

At the far end of the lobby The Bellagio Conservatory serves as a hub between shops, café, and hotel. The day we were there the conservatory staff (who number 100 horticulturists) was changing exhibits. Fortunately for us we got to see them work. Large planter tubs were being delivered (marble floors were protected with special mats). Crewmembers operating “cherry pickers” were removing the old display. Artist’s renderings of the new exhibit were displayed on easels. It is going to be a fun display with model trains and lots of handcrafted bridges and overpasses. One section of the old exhibit remained intact. It was a screen of banyan or fig trees gracefully decorated with tropical flowers .

We only visited a few shops. The first memorable one was the Chihuly shop. If you can’t afford one of the blown glass sculptures, you can buy a box of note cards. The second shop of note was the Jean-Phillippe Patisserie. Along one wall is a three-stream fountain or more accurately a “chocolate-fall”. There is a stream each of white, milk, and dark chocolates falling 27 feet from one glass pool to another. This is for display, not eating. The chocolate is recirculated using 6 pumps. The trick is to keep the climate controlled inside the fountain enclosure (95ºF) and the chocolate must maintain a flowing temperature of 120ºF.

All our Bellagio sightseeing had been free. That doesn’t hold for the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art. The gallery is open 9:00am to 10:00pm, daily. Admission is $15, with a small discount for students, Nevada residents, and seniors. We were given an auto guide to use but I had to request a brochure. Exhibits are changed every 6 months with collections being brought in from across international collections. We were fortunate to view the Ansel Adams: America exhibit. Several small galleries displayed different aspects of his work. A long narrow gallery covered his life and career. You exit by way of a small museum shop.

Before claiming the car we watched one show of the outdoor fountains from a walkway. Dramatic lighting accompanies the water show at night. The lack of that made the afternoon show a little less exciting. Close
