There is always some consternation in booking a motel/hotel in a city that you haven't ever visited before. Will it be nice? Will it be located where I want to be? The Beach Front Wakulla experience was in a word WONDERFUL. The check in time was listed as 4:00PM which I thought was a little later than normal but OK. We arrived a little after noon hoping to be able to get the room and get to the beach. When we arrived, the desk clerk was very nice and said she would do what she could. She was able able to upgrade us from our reserved room to a poolside room for the same price. Wow I thought. Then I saw the room they gave us. It was a two bedroom suite (they are all suites here). To say this room was huge is an understatement. The room was fabulous. The property is a little older but it is well cared for and we had no problems at all with any of the facilities at the property. The walk from our room to the private beach was a little more than 100 yards but we were on the end of the property away from the beach. I have never written a review before but I was so impressed with the value of this property that I felt compelled to do so.

Beach front "not" but overall great experience

We went for a girls weekend in January. The room was large and the beds were comfortable. There is a full size fridge and a publix just down the road so you can easily buy breakfast food and pack a lunch to eat on the beach. They no longr provide breakfast. We liked the cocoa beach pier for eating dinner and listening to music. Beach front means the unit is between the road and the beach, but you will not have a beach view. You will be looking at a parking lot. The extra expense was worth it if you plan to spend the day at the beach and want to be able to walk back up to your room to get drinks, use the facilities etc and it was super quiet at night. However, the view from the courtyard rooms was way better and if you are going down for an extended period of time and want to meet other retirees make sure that you pick courtyard, not beach side.

Thumbs up

The hotel is very worth the money! Very friendly staff & the other travelers were very nice...very much like a family environment! The suite floor could use a better mop, but overall is was a nice place to stay! There is only 1 tv in the living room...no tv's in the bedrooms, so that was a little difficult. I'd definitely stay there again! And the gardens are gorgeous & very aromic!

Filthy room, Rude host

We were excited at the prospect of staying here because they had suites and my son could have his own room. When we arrived, my husband was greeted with "we'll need a credit card for incidentals" and then made to sign 4 waivers before we could get a key. This would be fine if the room didn't already wreak of smoke (we are non-smokers). It had dirty, broken and stained furniture, and absolutely filthy floors. In the bathroom, the ends of the shower rod were pitted in rust (the rest of the rod was covered in contact paper to cover it ) the mirror was old and peeling, and the the floor under the sink was black with dirt. When we noticed that there was no cable for the internet, my husband called the front desk only to be told that maintenance keeps them locked up, and since it is after 5PM, we'd have to wait until they arrived at 7:30 the next morning to receive one. We stayed here while visiting KSC to see a launch and the close proximity to the space center was the only bonus. The pool did look nice, but the liveliness of the courtyard was dampened by the many signs demanding you keep your children away from the plants. If the other hotels in the area weren't already booked, we probably would have left early. The comments about being oceanside are misleading, our room was a full block and a half off of the ocean. Upon checkout, the person simply took the keys and said okay. My husband asked for a receipt and was told that we could only get one through our on line travel website because we booked through them. No "have a nice day." No "how was your stay." We will not be returning.

Excellent Family Hotel

We were very thrilled with our stay at Wakulla Suites. The suites were HUGE, like mini apartments. If you are looking for a 5 star "chocolates on the pillow" place, Wakulla isn't for you. The furniture is old. But we found the accomodations clean and very comfortable. There was plenty of room to spread out, and the beach is very close by (although "beachfront" for those suites isn't exactly correct. There are no beach views.) The staff was nice, especially the cleaning and maintenance staff. Internet is free, but there is no wireless. There are gas grills to use, along with a nice pool, shuffleboard, an arcade and a beautiful garden. The rooms are quiet and the beds are comfortable. The kitchens have a stove, full size fridge and microwave, and dishes-the Publix and Winn Dixie are nearby. So are 2 7-11's, a Taco Bell and Ron Jon Surf Shop. It's a safe area. I would highly recommend Wakulla to anyone traveling with a family (my kids are 9, 5 and 3). We loved it there and next trip to Florida, we'll be going back there.
