DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU SMOKE!

There were no signs posted at all on the room door or in the room not to smoke. A week and a half after my stay they charged my credit card an extra $100.00. They did not try to contact me at all. I called my travel agent about why had this motel charged me an extra $100.00 when I had prepaid for my room rate a month before my stay. He called the motel and was told that they charged me $100.00 for smoking in my room. I smoked 2 ciggarettes in my room and used my own ash tray and was charged $100.00 without any warning. I managed a 120 unit motel for 15 years and never would I have ever even thiought about doing this to one of my guest. All facilities have rules, but they are posted. The only warning that I saw around this whole motel was a small no smoking that was in the lobby. Everyone that lives in ca knows that you can not smoke in public building now. I paid good money to rent that room and if they did not want me to smoke in it they should have it posted like other motels do. Oh, when my travel agent questioned them about the $100.00 charge they stated that this whole motel property was a non smoking facility. Then why are there big ash trays in the pool area? bottom line I feel that it was very wrong how they handel the non smoking policy and or their penilities. $100.00 is very excessive with out warning. I will not ever recommend this motel because of what happened. The room itself was nice but the bed was very hard and the pillows were flat and smelled very old.

We found the room very comfortable (and quiet!!!); and the location on State Street perfect for us. The staff was very friendly and efficient. We will stay again when we return to Santa Barbara.

The bed in the first room had bugs. Switched to new room and it was OK. Room cleanliness has a lot to be desired, but in Santa Barbara, I guess for the price you get what you pay for.

Overall good value. Needs a little improvement aesthetically but staff was nice and location is good.

Good for the Price

Be sure to have reasonable expectations when you stay at the Sandpiper. The rooms are clean, the staff is mostly friendly and the price and location are good. I have stayed there many times for business and pleasure. However, it can be a little loud sometimes and some of the rooms are run down. This is a consistently good quality value hotel in otherwise pricey, and very beautiful, Santa Barbara.
