This old hotel just a half block off Union Square has rooms as large as newer hotels, full bath, and closet. Nothing was cramped. All furnishings were more than adequate. Service was more than adequate as well. Recommended.
Great value.

Perfect location. Good hotel for the money. Great restaurants nearby (try Kuleto's or Scala for dinner...Sears has the best breakfast). Public transportation near-- BART goes from SFO to within two blocks of the hotel for less than $6. A cab would've been $40+ and would take more time. Concierge was very helpful. Ask for a quiet room-- no view, but it's quiet. Room with a view is noisy- windows not soundproofed. Very clean, small room, but was a little dated. Restaurant in the hotel was OK, but not great. By Sept 2008, they seemed almost done with the renovations. Bed was comfortable, but the pillow was a little too thick.
Great location

Very easy to get to any transportation and shopping from here. I asked for room away from street so we hardly had any noise but with that comes no view which I was prepared for from others reviews. The room and furnishings don't look up to date but comfortable and clean.
A week's stay was OK.

One word describes this hotel: meh.
The location is right next to Union Square, so very convenient for tourists, as expected. The rooms were a bit small, but it's downtown SF, so that's expected. My room, overlooking the street was noisy, but again, what do you expect in a big city?
In other words, everything about this hotel was, at best, meeting expectations. Absolutely nothing outstanding about the service or the rooms or the food. It's a solid 3 star hotel; I'm not sure why it gets 3 1/2 or 4 stars on other sites. Perhaps it is the overpriced hotel bar or the undersized pool or the existence of a concierge desk.
In short, nothing wrong with this hotel, but that's all I can say about it. You can't get a better room for the same price, but you can get a better price for the same room.

This hotel is on the edge of the main shopping district so there is a lot of sidewalk traffic. The hotel is in a great location. We were only 3 blocks from the BART (subway) and bus stops. It is within easy walking distance of restaurants and shops. A longer walk will get you to Chinatown. The hotel is clean. There is a small room with computers to get boarding passes for free. Other use requires a card that you pay for. The front desk was friendly and efficient. The concierge station was always busy. The room was nice (curtains too frilly for my husband) and staff respected that we did not need new towels or room check everyday. Pool area was near the remodeling section but did not use. There is a parking lot if you have a vehicle to park. There is a restaurant and room service but we did not take advantage of those preferring to explore S.F. on our own. We were there Aug 1-4, 08.
