Sunterra Resorts Greensprings Plantation

  • August 27, 2004

Best Things Nearby:
Ukrop Supermarket and Monticello Marketplace where we did all our shopping.

Best Things About the Resort:
The quality of the units. Nice and spacious. The rooms are nicely sized as are all the rooms. There is a central area with a swimming pool, fitness room and activities center. It is a big resort, but each building only holds four units, so you feel like you have space and are not on top of everyone else.

Resort Experience:
Sunsprings is situated on the grounds of the Williamsburg Golf Course. Therefore, it is very spacious. The units are nicely sized so you can spread out, put your feet up and relax. There are two swimming pools: an indoor, which has the humid, chlorine smell of all indoor pools, and an outdoor pool, which is very pretty and relaxing. It's a nice place to sit and read a book and relax while the kids swim and splash.

They have a shuffleboard court, table tennis, and miniature golf. There is a small fitness room with two treadmills, stationary bike and some weights. The landscaping is well maintained. As a homeowner who has his share of yard work, I appreciate when grounds are well maintained. The unit was such a nice size that we had our relatives over for dinner and there was room to spare. If you go to Sunsprings and you don't relax, it's your own fault!

Shopping, winery, and restaurants

Best Things About the Resort:
Quiet, nice pool. Golf.

Resort Experience:
The resort is quite large and if you are assigned a unit in the area where we were, it's a good walk to the pool. The overall look of the resort is nice. However, the attention to detail is not visible. I expect a Gold Crown resort to look nicer than this one did. The grass was brown and the units were not as clean as I would have expected.

The pool area is quite nice with a fairly large pool. There is also an indoor pool, which, funnily enough, was closed during the one day it rained because of a potential lightning storm. Isn't that why you have an indoor pool. . . to get out of the weather? Also the outdoor hot tub was not working and wasn't repaired all week even though we were told it would be fixed the next day. There is a tiki bar at the pool, but bring your cash because they haven't figured out how to charge drinks to your room yet. There were minimal activities at the resort. The basketball tournament we signed up for didn't happen. Oh well, we were there just to relax anyway. The golf course on site is a nice track. You get a discount if you stay here. Unfortunately for us, it rained on the day we golfed, but that was not their fault.

The staff was fairly friendly but didn't always have the answers to our questions. It seemed they didn't know what was going on at the resort (repairs to hot tub, activity schedules, and the towel sign-out method changed daily).

I would go back, but I think I would try one of the other Williamsburg RCI resorts first.

Best Things Nearby:
Even though it is off-season, there is plenty to keep you busy. There are TONS of outlets to shop in, although my favorite outing was the Williamsburg Winery.

Best Things About the Resort:
It was friendly, clean, and it made you feel like you were a million miles away from the world!

Resort Experience:
We stayed in a two-bedroom unit. Let me tell you, we were pleased from the minute we pulled up to the gates. Security greeted us and told us how to check in. The staff at the front desk was friendly and informative.

The unit . . . "Oh my goodness!" is all I can say! It was BEAUTIFUL! The bedrooms are on opposite sides of the unit, so there is plenty of privacy. The master bath has a great whirlpool tub, a separate shower, and two sinks! It lacked nothing!! The kitchen was fully stocked with all of the appliances and gadgets you would need. It was just GREAT!

Sunterra Resorts Greensprings Plantation

Best Things Nearby:
Colonial Williamsburg makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. Everyone was so friendly, and happy to talk to you about any questions you have. If only American history was this fascinating in school.

Busch Gardens is a beautiful amusement park. Lots to do for people of all ages. We were there before Halloween, so the evening theme focused around that, but it was not too scary for young children, just fun. Then there is Jamestown, Yorktown, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Washington DC is only a couple hours away.

Best Things About the Resort:
The resort was spotless outside and inside. We were there shortly after the hurricane, and were amazed at how quickly the resort and Williamsburg cleaned up. There were still many uprooted and downed trees in the forests, but all the roads were clean and neat. This resort is quite large and spread out over a large area, backed up to a golf course. The units are all two-bedroom, two-bath. The unit overall was quite large. The large master bath had a large jacuzzi tub and shower. The other bathroom was standard but had a steam bath. The staff was friendly and helpful if you had a question, otherwise they did not bother us.

Resort Experience:
Greensprings Plantation is clean, modern, large, and close to many attractions. The buildings are set amongst beautifully landscaped grounds. Williamsburg is really a well-taken-care-of community. The resort has a very attractive swimming pool, but since it was October we did not use it. There is a game room that my son and husband took advantage of, while I planned the next day's outings.

Best Things Nearby:
Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Settlement, Carter's Grove, Yorktown . . . convenient and terrific grocery store and restaurants . . . outlet malls, too!

Best Things About the Resort:
Location is everything -- it's only minutes from the historical sites and close to lots of local amenities. The accommodations are very spacious and beautifully decorated. There's a great outdoor pool, but in the winter, you have to leave your unit and walk in the cold to get to the hot-tub or indoor pool . . . just not something you really want to do.

Resort Experience:
Units are townhouse-style with the individual units single-story but on one of three floors of a multiple unit building. Once you've lugged your stuff upstairs (no elevators), the units are large bright, beautifully decorated, and have everything you could possible want in the way of kitchen supplies, furnishings, and linens. The gas fireplace in the living room is welcome in the cooler months and the balconies are great to sit out on. The setting is very private, well off the main roadway. We would have liked an on-site tuck shop or cafe, even though restaurants and grocery stores are nearby, just as a way to meet other guests since the winter months don't lend themselves to sitting around the pool! Each floor has 2 two-bedroom units, which can be combined into a four-bedroom complex if you have a large family or are taking guests along . . . you'd then have a whole floor of the building to yourselves.
