Sunterra Resorts Greensprings Plantation

  • August 3, 2005
  • Rated 2 of 5 by jplatte from Grand Ledge, Michigan
Best Things Nearby:
Jamestown Settlement, Water Country USA, & Busch Gardens. Also enjoyed our visit to Hampton.

Best Things About the Resort:
Very nice pool although the hot, hot weather in mid July really made the water too hot. I don't like to freeze when I get into a pool but I did not feel refreshed when I got in the water but it was better than the 100 to 115 heat index that we experienced the whole week we were there.

Resort Experience:
This resort is spread out over a huge area. I suggest that you contact the resort directly several weeks before your arrival and request a unit as close to the pool area (if you want to swim) as possible and if you want a first floor unit as there are no elevators in the buildings. They really need to add an additional pool closer to the entrance to the resort as anyone located in those units would have a long walk or have to drive to use the pool.

This was not the typical Gold Crown resort that we have experienced over the last 10 years that we have used time shares. The landscaping could use some serious weeding around the units. Upon entering our unit, it was not clean and several items were missing in our unit. There were several other problems and after two days, management fixed all and did try and make amends by waiving several fees and offering items. This resort has the potential to truly be a Gold Crown Resort but I feel that they still need to work on things. They also had a huge family of field mice (nest underground) outside our first floor unit. They didn't come in our unit and our kids enjoyed watching them but again not Gold Crown standards.

They really need to have someone on staff that is familiar with restaurants and the area. Several times, I asked questions/recommendations on restaurants (particularly on the Historic Taverns) and area attractions but the reply was always I don't know you should call around to find out.

They also have baby items available for rent (crib, high chair) but they need to place these items in the unit when they are requested. I found it ridiculous that we had to go to the front desk several hours after we checked in (at 9:30pm)to pick up these items and that we were not told this upon check in. We have NEVER had to get these items at any other resort we have stayed at including resorts that don't have Gold Crown/Resort of International Distinction ratings, particularly if we are paying for them.

The unit layout is very nice and spacious. It is very nice to have the washer/dryer in a walk in closet area with storage space for your luggage and coolers if you have one. Good selection of DVDs and VCR tapes if you want to rent one and it is also nice to have the mini golf course outside the clubhouse for the kids to play.

Best Things Nearby:
Virginia Beach, Colonial Williamsburg

Best Things About the Resort:
The resort/unit are well kept. My unit was situated just off of one of the tee boxes on the golf course.

Resort Experience:
A well-rested vacation! History buffs will be in heaven when visiting Colonial Williamsburg! We traveled to Norfolk to see the fireworks on the 4th of July. Spent a day at Virginia Beach, which was much nicer than I’d imagined it to be. The resort staff was warm and friendly - the gatekeeper even made dinner reservations for us! WOW!

The pool is big and fun looking. The resort itself is centrally located, and Busch Gardens and Water Country are just a few minutes’ drive away. Virginia Beach is an easy day trip. This resort is a must-visit for a family that is interested in history and fun! Highly recommended!

Sunterra Resorts Greensprings Plantation

  • July 3, 2005
  • Rated 4 of 5 by tgeary from Weston, Florida
Best Things Nearby:
Attractions: Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, and Water Country USA

Best Things About the Resort:
The two-bedroom unit was very roomy. The second bedroom had a queen-size bed, so we gave that room to our teenage daughter and let our 10-year-old sleep on the sofa bed in the living room.

Resort Experience:
The resort itself is very attractive. I don't know when it was built, but everything appears to be well maintained. There was an outdoor pool that had a wade-in area and no area deeper than 5 feet - our son loved it. There was also an indoor pool, hot tub, and gym. There was a swing set near our unit, as well as a gazebo, barbeque grills, and a swinging bench that looked very relaxing.

We were so busy going to attractions that we didn't spend much time at the resort. The resort is located to the west of where the attractions are, but not too far away, and they are very easy to get to. We were close enough to everything, but far enough away to not have any traffic.

The area around the resort appears to be growing, so there are nice shopping centers around. There is a Target, a Krops grocery store, and a Blockbuster, all within 2 miles of the resort. The local movie theatre was closed for renovations, but once it's finished, it will be close to the resort.

  • Rated 5 of 5 by skylarrose from Quakertown, Pennsylvania
Best Things Nearby:
Busch Gardens, Water Country, Colonial Williamsburg, and Jamestown.

Best Things About the Resort:
The resort has all the amenities. There is a nice pool area - a little smaller than Powhatan - with a graduated entry perfect for little ones.

Resort Experience:
Parking is limited. After everyone gets back from their various day trips, parking near your unit is a hit or miss. It has a private entrance and a balcony. The kitchen is large and well-accommodated. The master bath is huge, with a Jacuzzi big enough to fit two or three adults comfortably. There is a good size dining area, and the living room has a pullout couch and fireplace. The unit has two bathrooms. As an added bonus, it had laundry machines. It does look a little worn for a Gold Crown Resort, but is still really large and spacious.

Best Things Nearby:
Williamsburg, Busch Gardens (has Halloween rides and tricks for the kids), and park for the kids to play in.

Best Things About the Resort:
They had activities, and the staff was very helpful. It's close to everything, and the rooms are large and tastefully decorated with washer/dryers in the rooms. We rented bikes, but this resort was loved for its on-site golf course and the sauna in our room that had a steam bath.

Resort Experience:
We had a blast with the children at Busch Gardens; they could ride and enjoy the normal amusements, but could also indulge in the "scary" rides and monster dancing at the park. Williamsburg takes you back in time, and you can go on the Haunted Dinner Cruise, which was nice, and the resort also offers tours to Washington D.C., which you can sign up for at the resort itself. The rooms were awesome and clean. The furniture was top of the line, and had everything you could want or need, like an iron/ironing board, washer/dryer with soap, three-person hot tub with a steam sauna in master bedroom, fireplace, breakfast bar, balcony, and more. You can rent bikes, golf, swim, play basketball, go on the playground, use the exercise room, or practice your putt. The cost of activities is reasonable or free.
