Very cool, old hotel. Breakfast was good and the hotel bar was quite active. Parking was at a city lot around the corner for about 15 quid. Wireless internet is free, but so slow that it was essentially useless. Don't try to VPN with it. Otherwise a great place in the heart of Manchester.
A pleasant surprise

The Britannia Manchester can be a grim hotel experience when staying in a standard room. During our most recent visit, I booked a special rate for an Executive double and kept my fingers crossed. It certainly was a pleasant surprise. While the room was compact, it was newly papered and painted. It was also very clean, even to the corners of the bathroom floor! The bed was comfortable and covered with a fresh, spotless white duvet. It was also blessedly quiet. While breakfast was not included, a Costa was a block away and Starbucks was at the train station. Certainly, this room was basic, no frills accommodation, but for $*per night, we weren't complaining.
