The Creekside Inn is located right on El Camino Real, which is a main commercial street in Palo Alto. The hotel grounds surround Matadero Creek and have beautiful, large trees that overhang and shade the buildings. Most of the buildings appear to have been built in the 1960's, but the rooms are pleasant and fairly large. Our room had two double beds and a pull-out couch, so we could sleep two adults and our two teen-aged children easily. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. There's a morning continental breakfast with coffee, rolls and fruit and a outdoor courtyard in which to eat, surrounded by birdfeeders. There is also a very complete and well-stocked deli/market with a great selection of beer and wine, as well as a restaurant. We ate at a fabulous taqueria a couple of blocks south (El Grullense) and the Thai restaurant across the street (Thai City).
Nice enough neighborhood and the hotel rooms are quiet for being so close to El Camino Real. There are a number of other restaurants and lots of shopping, including a Fry's Electronics which is within walking distance. If our room had had a better bed, I'd give it five stars, but our bed was a little tired and saggy. On the whole, a nice spot with a friendly staff at a reasonable price.
