W is for Wonderful!

My third stay at this Hotel. We come several time a year to the French Quarter and have stayed many other places. I keep returning here. Very attentive staff, squeeky clean, to-die-for beds, great views and very secure. You can't get to the room floors without your key. Loved the fruit infused water and cool toweletts after walking and shopping in the heat. Love the CD of unique music they provide for your stay. Homey, cozy feeling to take a book down to the Living Room and lounge back and have a drink or coffee. Have never seen the dirty, moldy or mildewed areas others spoke of. Private cabanas at the pool great for that romantic touch. They brought a Pink Poodle Birthday cake for my daughter's 30th birthday and couldn't have been more welcoming. They even provided a shuttle to our favorite eatery, Jacques Imos. Five stars in my book!

Not Clean

I stayed here in August of 2007 for one night with friends. Their room was just as bad as mine. But, they will write their own review. To begin with, I was checked into an occupied room. Thankfully the person wasn't in the room or I could have been shot. I returned to the lobby and was barely given an apology for the mistake. The second room was a disgrace. There were stains on the comforter. It looked as though the carpet was swept with a broom instead of being vacuumed. The bathroom didn't have a bathmat, hairs all over the floor and the tub tile had mold. I was so upset about the comforter stains and the dirty bathroom, that I went back to the lobby to tell the desk person. I was moved to another room. This one was OK but still not what I would expect from a Starwood Hotel. My question is why is the lighting in this hotel so poor? Is this done to hide how dirty the rooms are and in particular how filthy the carpet and comforters are? This hotel needs a total renovation inluding all new comforters, all new carpet, and the room attendents obviously need vacuum cleaners that work!

REALLY Overrated

Though I recognize the weather had only recently turned chilly, the lobby was freezing, and I noticed many hotel guests walking through the lobby w/arms folded and shivering. I found the room was less than flawless. There was black mold on the tile grout in the shower. My friend's room had mold under the rim of the toilet. I also noticed problems in my room on the second night, including: mildew stains on the sheets. a hole that looked like a cigarette burn in the comforter. Because it was late & I desperately needed sleep when I recognized these problems, I pulled back the sheets w/o calling down to have the bed changed. I would not recommend this hotel to friends in the future. Interestingly, the place was set up like a lounge...dark, mood lighting all over which seemed to have been designed to mask the dirt & dinginess.

Stylish Place With Superior Service

What the room itself lacked (ours was in the old section and not renovated) in charm, the rest of the hotel made up for in spades. The concierge was tremendously helpful in finding us great things to do and places to shop, and the service from everyone at the property was smiling and lovely. I'd go back in a minute!

The staff make this hotel special -- considerate but not intrusive; cute, prompt, and knowledgeable. The lobby and rooms are, well, quintessential W: clean lines, calm atmosphere, and subtle colors. Would highly recommend the hotel to other travellers.
