Description: When it comes to life saving, in our world La Quinta is the BOSS. For some reason even though we had been dealing with freezing rain and cold in Dallas Fort Worth I didn’t check the web to see what the weather was in Austin. For some reason I think that I thought since we were heading south things would get warmer. Au contraire, it was much worse in Austin. We didn’t realize this until we were sitting in an Arby’s , yes I said Arby’s in Waco, and we saw a car in the parking lot covered with ice. We just kept looking at it, how the heck could that have happened and where had they come from. They had come from Austin and they told us don’t go there, it is awful.
We however didn’t think it could be that bad, we of course were to find out differently. We drove as far as we could with reasonable safety and then decided we would stop at the next hotel we saw that looked comfortable. We thought it would be a Holiday Inn but, surprise, it was La Quinta and as it turned out this was a very good thing. Not only were the rooms downright inexpensive at $65, but they included free Wi-Fi and breakfast.
We wanted to have a king bed and for Joe to be near us he had to also have a king bed and we had to be on the second floor. I really prefer a second floor when it is an exterior entrance. Our room had a king bed, a recliner, a good sized desk table, and a very comfortable rolling chair. The TV got lots of channels and everything was clean and relatively new. The bed was comfortable; however the pillows were wimpy, but we had enough of them.
The bathroom had the sink and vanity in a separate room and we had a good size tub with nice water pressure. We were very comfortable. There was a coffee pot and free coffee on the vanity as well as a blow dryer on the wall. In our open closet we had an iron and an ironing board. We also had two phones, one on the night stand and one on the desk.
Breakfast is served in the lobby. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate, orange juice, two or three types of cereal, bagels, bananas, Danish, yogurt, and make your own waffles. While the bagels and Danish are wrapped in plastic and are nothing special, the waffles were excellent.
If you come here in the good weather, there is an outdoor pool and a hot tub. There are also vending machines, though they were out of most things while we were there.
There is a good selection of chain restaurants very close by on the access road on the other side of the freeway. We had everything we needed to be safe and comfortable for 2 nights.
