Description: I was very excited to stay at Treasure Island in Las Vegas. I assumed due to its proximity to the best hotels in Vegas(the Venetian, Mirage, Caesar’s, and Bellagio are all somewhat right-next-door) that this would be a great hotel to stay in as well. I was mistaken. From the time we arrived to the time we left I was unimpressed with "TI" (as Treasure Island is commonly nicknamed).
Arriving at TI took a bit more effort than the other hotels I have stayed at in Vegas as it was the last shuttle bus stop on the route. I would recommend taking a cab from the airport unless you don’t mind a good hour-and-a-half to spent dropping off the other shuttle patrons. Once we arrived at TI, the shuttle bus didn’t even pull up to the proper entrance since it could not fit under the hotel’s overhang in front. We had to lug our stuff over two curbs (without access ramps) to gain access to this hotel.
Once inside TI, the lobby and casino areas of the hotel fail to impress. The dark interior looks very outdated in comparison to other area casinos. The low ceilings in the casino and entryway also trigger feelings of claustrophobia.
The person at the reception desk that checked us in informed us that though we had reserved a non-smoking room they were unable to accommodate that request but "there was no way we could tell that our room was a smoking room since their housekeeping staff was very good." Unfortunately this was not the case and once we opened the door to our room we were punched in the face by the cigarette odor left by former patrons. There were no other options left in this hotel though, so we settled into our stinky room.
The room itself also seemed outdated (as with the rest of the hotel public areas) and reminded me more of a cheap Holiday Inn than a hotel that was 50% more expensive than NY/NY (which from my previous experience had much nicer rooms). We did have a nice view of the strip, but I didn’t want to stay in my room at all to enjoy it.
At the time of check-in we had asked for a later check-out (since we were getting married in the afternoon of our final day here) and were told that it would not be a problem to arrange but we had to call the morning that we were checking out. Well, at 8:00 AM the morning of our wedding I called the front desk and they denied my request. When I tried to plead with them that we were getting married at 2:00 PM and their noon time checkout would be a hassle they informed me that "18 other couples who are staying in this hotel are also getting married today. We cannot accommodate you". I know in Las Vegas that this is probably common, but I wish they would have been more upfront about it at TI so that we could have prepared better for other arrangements.
Outside of TI every night they have a staged "Battle of the Sirens" in which actors and pirate ships duke it out in front of the casino every half hour. This was possibly the only attraction at this hotel worth seeing. Their "famed" pool was not the scene I was looking for (or family friendly) since there were strippers hired to work there every weekend. I couldn’t even just sit by it to relax as I wanted without being bothered by "the scene".
TI was not what I was expecting and for less money you could stay at a nicer hotel or resort in Vegas. I would not stay here again or recommend it to anyone.
