Nice hotel for a short trip

My wife and I traveled to NYC to see the sights and see a show. We stayed for 3 nights and found the hotel to be very clean, with friendly and helpful staff. Its location is very nice, within walking distance to Times Square, Carnegie Hall, Central Park and many of the 5th Ave stores. We even walked from the hotel to the U.N. We stayed in a superior room, and it was on the 55th Street side, 2nd floor. The room was small but efficiently laid out, and there was room for our luggage in the closet. The room was impeccably clean when we arrived, and housekeeping service was very good. Even though our room was directly above the lounge/bar we heard absolutely no noise from it, even though in the lobby, the music from the bar was moderately loud. There was some infrequent sounds of traffic, but it isn't really worth mentioning. As a whole, as long as the room is clean and in proper working condition, I'm not a big worrier about the decor of a hotel room. But the room (and the entire hotel) is a very modern, stainless steel kind of place, which some will call simple and uncluttered (me, for example) and others will find cold and sterile (my wife didn't care for it much). But the room has a nice LCD TV, Bose radio, and all the standard amenities like an iron, hair dryer, etc. All in all, we found it to be very clean, quiet, friendly, convenient and would definitely stay there again.

Overall Pretty Good-Love the Decor!

What I really liked the most about the hotel was the modern decor in the lobby area and the room. I arrived a few hours before check-in and the front desk checked to see if they had any rooms available at that time (only smoking rooms-so I passed). They held my luggage for me (free of charge) while I went sightseeing. The room I stayed in was small, but based on previous reviews, I expected that. It wasn't too bad since I was traveling alone. The bathroom was a tad too small even for my liking (they could've made the shower stall smaller and added more space to the the sink/toilet area), but it was manageable. My one complaint about the hotel would be the food. I ordered room service for breakfast since I wanted to get a jump on my 2nd day of sightseeing. It was a little pricey, but I felt it would be worth it to not have to walk around and find a cafe that served breakfast. However, the pancakes were VERY burnt. I had them bring up another set and they were not much better. If I stay again, I will just get up earlier and eat out. Other than that, my experience here was quite pleasant and I would definitely stay again.

Excellent Location

Quietly located between 5th and 6th Avenues and within walking distance of theaters and shopping. No dining but breakfast pretty good. Rooms were large and modern (great TV and lighting) but bathrooms tiny. No views but staff were friendly. Elevators and corridors are narrow too so you soon get friendly with everyone you meet!

It was my first time in NYC and let me tell you that the Shoreham hotel is an excellent option. The staff welcomes you with Champagne. You have everything very close, Central Park, all the shopping on 5th avenue, also Rockefeller center and Times Square are within walking distance. Everything was very clean and the hotel bar is famous among locals.
