Not What I Expected in a Crowne Plaza

  • July 20, 2009

Stayed one night at Dayton Crowne Plaza. Arrived late at night, but no problems checking in. Lobby surprisingly cold and sterile. Staff was efficient but not especially personable. Called desk when heat/air controls on unit did not seem to work; was informed that we needed to use thermostat on wall. (This was not noted anywhere on the unit.) Front desk personnel must be tired of this question, as he was quite short about it. Did not, at any time, feel that the accomodations and service were up to Crowne Plaza standard. I guess the best you can find in Dayton, but don't go into it with high expectations of a special stay.

Sleepless in Dayton, OH

The hotel was centrally located in downtown Dayton across from the Convention Center. The sound insulation was exceptionally poor because one could hear buses, cars, pedestrian, helicopters, and guests at neighboring rooms thoughout the night. It was difficult to sleep. The hotel is also older and dated. Free parking at an attached garage building was included.

Picture looks better on the computer

The Crowne Plaza is in a great location for downtown Dayton but lacked the overall finesse usually found at a Crowne Plaza property. The building is old but the rooms have been renovated in the last few years with some major details missed. The rooms are very small, windows are the original, the bath facilities are what you will find at many mid-level hotels. The fitness facilities were lacking in space and quality of machines. The restaurant provided great views of the city but the food was completely lacking Crowne Plaza standards. I had tuna that should not have been served yet was touted as sushi grade. I did not leave it on the plate but for the $40 tab, I was not satisfied. The picture on the computer looks much nice than the actual. Great location, lacking finesse.

Cramped room, slow restaurant service, excessive traffic noise

While the bed was excellent, the noise of downtown sirens ruined a decent night of sleep. The persistent on / off cycling of the cooler fan was also annoying. I later learned that the controls for the air were on the wall and not on the device itself. I'm not sure why this fact wasn't more obvious. The amount of space allowed for doing business was limited to a small table tucked in the corner of the room. The restaurant on the top floor had excellent food, however, the service was remarkably slow considering the number of patrons. all in all, I could only give my experience 3 stars.

Unsatisfactory Stay

The night we went to the Crowne Plaza, we wanted to hang out and play cards with the other couple with us. The heat did NOT work in our room. After several complaints, we were offered more blankets. They did not even have a portable heater to lend us. We were also offered food vouchers for six dollars. I sent an e-mail to the hotel's director, but he didn't even take the time to write me back and apologize!! I will NEVER stay there again!! At least the cheap motels have heat...... Thanks for nothing Crowne Plaza in Dayton.
