85 degrees in room, staff lied to us!! HORRIBLE!!!!

We checked in with our 18 month old son at 11pm at night on a Saturday. We had flown across country from California to Dulles and then drove in a rental car to Richmond. We travel with a portable temperature sensor to keep our climate good for baby. Our room was 85 DEGREES! We turned on the "air conditioner" and the room got HOTTER! We asked the front desk for a fan and they did not have anymore available but they then LIED to us and said that management would turn on the air conditioner on Sunday. My fiance drove clear across town to a relative's house at 1:20 am and borrowed a fan. The window in our room did not have a screen on it, so we were lucky that our child was cooperative to stay in his crib. Mind you, the baby was awake the whole night because he was sweating to death from the heat. The fan brought the room down to 77 degrees at 5:00 am, but then the temperature started to rise again. I went down for the breakfast at 7:00 am and I mentioned to the front desk guy that we really looked forward to the a/c being turned on. He said, "oh, i am sorry ma'am, we just turned off the heat, we are not planning to turn on the air conditioning... just run the fan in your room and leave the window open" WE HAVE AN 18 MONTH OLD BABY, WE CANNOT LEAVE A WINDOW OPEN WITHOUT A SCREEN IN THE WINDOW!!!! Also, the breakfast was disgusting. I would give this hotel negative stars if it were possible. BE WARNED... DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! Also, we had a room with 2 queen beds and 1 of the queens was BROKEN.

Much improved from previous reviews!!!

I was hesitant to book here because of the poor reviews, but bargain weekend rate convinced me to try it. Good Points: excellent location on Broad Street just a few blocks from Science Musuem/IMAX, easy to find from Interstate and easy to access other Richmond attractions from here, adjacent to free parking lot, free breakfast, room updated and clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Weak Points: we hit during an unusual warm spell in December and could not get AC to cut on so room was too hot, location is in older commercial part of city so no nice views and I would advise using extreme caution walking or jogging streets around hotel. We believe this is an older hotel previously operated under another name, but all the facilities appear to be newly renovated with fresh paint and new furnishings. The conference rooms were set up for an event, the cafe where the breakfast was served was clean with a nice assortment of food choices. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Quick, romantic getaway

My husband and I made a quick getaway and had a difficult time finding a location in Richmond. We later found out it was VCU's graduation and therefore hotel rooms were hard to come by. I booked the Comfort Inn because it was close to downtown and a concert we were attending. The price for the room was very reasonable. We were greeted warmly and the check-in was quick. At the elevator a sign was posted stating that improvements were pending. (A past reviewer stated that improvements were being made last Fall, so I assumed - wrongly - that they would be complete). The elevator was dirty and smelly and it only got worse as we walked into the hallway on our floor. The radiator was ripped from the wall in the foyer, pipes exposed, and the carpet was thread-bare. The whole floor had the same stale, icky smell. Outside the door to our room there was a bucket collecting water dripping from the ceiling. The ceiling tiles were pushed back and my husband could see a funnel in the ceiling directing dripping water into another bucket secured to the pipes. At first glance, our room seemed fine, but honestly, it was just plain dirty. Not from the lack of housekeeping, but from time. The hotel seems old and dirt accumulates if you don't keep up with it. Old ground-in dirt had collected in the corners of the bathroom and the tub was scurvy. The room also had the same smell as the rest of the hotel. I will say that the staff was friendly and the breakfast the next morning was decent (get there early though). The lobby and mtg rooms had been renovated nicely so maybe it's just a matter of time until the rooms follow.

Would never go back, rooms were not clean, had to put towel in tub before I would shower.
