Met the mark at a busy time

We stayed on a big Fburg weekend, including out of town vendors for their community Christmas fest and a national association convention tied to the Pacific War Museum. Even so, everything was as it should be, including friendly and professional staff, clean building and grounds, quiet hallways (though we were in a busy corner room on a hallway intersection), plentiful breakfast, and comfortable beds. (By the way, the clean sheets were muslin, not percale, so they were not wrinkle-free permanent press; other former patrons need a lesson in linens.) Only one improvement to mention: the parking lot access doors were not locked, even though keycard readers existed, compromising hotel security...but in such a small town, probably not as big a deal. Even so, we would stay here again.

OktoberFest in Fredricksburg

We stayed at this hotel over the weekend, while visiting Fredericksburg for Oktoberfest. The town is wonderful and well worth a trip, and the exterior of the hotel is attractive and the front desk staff was cordial. However the price (***) had raised our expectations of the quality and cleanliness of the hotel, which were NOT met - not even close. To be fair, all of the area hotels seem to raise prices during this event, which can be attributed to a "supply & demand" or market adjustment, but we felt that it was more along the lines of "price gouging". The beds were horrible (the hotel would make a killing if they had an on-site chiropractor) and the sheets were dirty, and appeared as if they hadn't been changed since the former guests checked out. Yuck! Even though we had a non-smoking room, the second floor hallway and vending area smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. The hotel is pet-friendly, so the dog barking in the hallway at 6am Saturday morning was not a complete surprise, but it was unpleasant. Also, I?m allergic to tobacco smoke and pet dander and my allergies were a problem while in the room (but much better while we were out) which raised our concerns about cleanliness.

Great value during the week

If you're traveling to Fredericksburg during the week, this is a great value. The rooms are new, clean, and very comfortable. The hotel is off the main street and in a quiet location. You can walk or drive to the main street for shopping. As for the front desk, all of my interactions were excellent.

When we booked a room, there was no mention of a two night minimum (and it is not anywhere on their website). We only found out this information when we attempted to cancel the second night. They would not allow us to cancel the second night or cancel the entire stay since it was an hour past the 24 hour cancellation deadline. Bottom line: they were not good at providing information and were not good at customer service to rectify the situation. Sunday House was very nice, though.
