Resort Experience:
The Carlsbad Inn Resort was a lovely property within steps of the beach, located on the corner of Coast Highway. San Diego attractions were a short drive away (about 30 minutes with no traffic), and the beach walks here at Carlsbad were lovely.
We were lucky to get good weather--in the 70s, with only a little morning fog. The property is immaculate, and the staff is very accommodating and helpful. We hosted a holiday dinner party for about 10 old friends in the area and asked the resort for extra dishes, glasses, and chairs. They were provided very quickly. Our only regret was that we had a ground-floor unit with only a very partial view from the patio, but other than that, the property was very nice, and I especially enjoyed the king-size, pillow-top bed, which was enormously comfy.
Nearby is the Carlsbad Spa--about a two-block walk away--where you can get a nice soak in the mineral water, a massage, and facial for about $160 in an Egyptian-themed room--a nice treat. The Encinitas Golf Course is nearby and a beautiful course to play. Restaurants nearby that we recommend: The Armenian Cafe--excellent food, though a bit pricey. Cessy's Mexican food, right across the street, is very cheap. Try the carnitas taco for $2.15! And Caldo Pomodoro, a few blocks away, has delicious Italian--try the spumoni pie! And ask for Bill, the waiter--he was very enthusiastic.
The train station is a couple blocks away, and you can catch the Coaster to SD if you don't want to drive, though the times are limited to commuting times.
The Carlsbad Inn is a wonderful choice for the San Diego beach area!
