Melrose Hotel

The Melrose Dallas is located about two blocks from the Mansion on Turtle Creek, which I have stayed at on other special occasions. From the moment I arrived, the staff treated us like royalty. The doorman/bellman/desk staff always made a effort to use our names in a personal friendly manner. I think they overheard my wife mentioning our anniversary dinner reservations, and shortly after we checked in, a note/amenity arrived to our room from the General Manager congradulating us on our anniversary.

The room was beautiful, with a large bathroom with a double vanity, marble floors, and great amenities. At night, we could see the city skyline of Dallas from our window. We had drinks in the Library Bar and listened to the live piano music. We dined at another restaurant on our anniversary but decided to try the Landmark on our second night, I am glad we did. The food is rated 5 stars by the Dallas Morning News, and it was! My wife had the seafood frutti marri, and I had the filet. Both were presented beautifully and prepared to perfection. Charlie, our server, was very professional, and again, used our name and had a special dessert for our anniversary "on the house".

We both desided to work out before we left, and the fitness center was fantastic--personal viewing stations, cold towels, fresh fruit, etc. Overall, a five-star hotel with great service.

The Melrose Hotel () is a designated historic landmark in the city of Dallas. I have never stayed as a guest, but I know many people who do stay regularly, and like it. The Landmark restaurant has excellent food and the Library bar is a nice, sort of sophisticated place to have a cocktail. While the hotel is very convenient to one of Dallas' gay nightlife areas, straight friends and family are perfectly comfortable here. It is located on the corner of Cedar Springs and Oak Lawn.
