Must be nice not to have competition

Because of its location next to U of M, and the lack of any other hotels nearby (other than campus inn, which is owned by the same people and decorated exactly the same) this hotel gets away with being run down and rooms are tiny, dark and old. If it wasn't for the nice and friendly guys out working the front door this would have been a disaster. Also this is a non-smoking hotel, and they have no accommodating smoking area outside, no ashtray, no bench, and so you have to flick the butts outside the front door, while getting wet in the rain.... nice. 4 star pricing with 2 star hotel. I'm guessing that its the nostalgia for college days gone by allows them to run a substandard operation.
