Beds ruin the rating for this hotel

I would give this hotel two smiles out of five. The location is nice, close to cute restaurants and shops and a quick drive to the marina and Cannery Row. The staff was pleasant and the grounds very pretty. The room is strangely arranged and feels a bit dated. But the fireplace and soaking tub are great. The bed is the WORST. A hard, cheap interspring matterress with no padding and a bouncy feel. The linens ar rough, scratchy and the one pillow per person is a feather flat pillow. I actually got up in the middle of the night to grab the two robes out of the closet to sleep on and cover up with. They were also scratchy and hard. Advice to the hotel-change your linen service or buy better bedding to compete. The Holiday Inn Express in the area has much better beds and luxurious bedding at a cheaper rate per night. The morning continental breakfast was just mediocre. Perhaps because it is off season. Cold cereals, a few bagels and truly horrible coffee. Overall, would not stay at this hotel again, even for the great location.

I was a bit worried about what I was going to get after reading some negative reviews online. However all turned out really nice. The room was spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was big and modern. The staff were friendly. Maybe we were lucky, our room was not noisy. I could hear people from the floor above or outside occasionally but it was not too bad. We have also enjoyed the breakfast too. My only complain was that their internet access did not work in guest rooms. I would consider staying there again.

The photographs on the website does the hotel more justice then it deserves. The gounds were beautiful; the breakfast very nice. The room and its location were a great disappointment to us considering how much we paid for a 2 night stay. Plus you have to pay to park in the hotels underground garage. Would not set foot in the hottub-dirty. Will not recommend; will not stay again.

Sorry, not worth the money

When we booked our romantic getaway, we wanted to stay at a cozy but high quality inn, that was close enough shops and restaurants but away from too much hustle and bustle. We saw pictures of the Hotel Pacific and knew it wasn't right on cannery row, and saw it had high ratings (four stars on most sites), so we thought it would suit us. We were horribly wrong! I'm writing this to help others avoid the same mistake we made... This is NOT a four star hotel! Anyone who has stayed at a real four or five star hotel would know this. Unfortunately, when we booked our room, we did not realize that there was no air conditioning, and the only way to cool off the room was to open up all the windows...we also didn't realize half the hotel (our half) faced a VERY busy street and there were college kids roaming around unitl late hours. We also didn't realize that "rustic" meant that our bed would be lumpy and the bed spread and carpet around it would smell like dirty feet, and I swear the sheets were dirty (I slept with a towel over my pillow). There was no room service in this "four star" and quite expensive hotel, and we even had to walk to another hotel to have dinner as there was no restaurant onsite. Do yourself a favor if you want a romantic weekend -- try the Hilton Garden Inn at Monterey(looks beautiful) or save your money and stay at the Best Western Beach Hotel Monterey that is right on the beach (just outside Monterey)...they have clean and quaint rooms, and have a great restaurant and romantic ocean views. A much better value than the Hotel Pacific.

Great Stay

I visit Monterey and Carmel several times a year for work and stay at a number of different hotels. I really enjoyed my stay at The Hotel Pacific. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. One of the MOST comfortable beds I've slept in in a long time. Every room has a fireplace and it was nice to relax with a fire going after a long day of meetings. The hotel has a quiet atmosphere and is within easy walking distance to the various points of interest downtown. The continental breakfast was very good with several healthy options such as fresh fruit and yogurt. I definitely recommend this hotel!
