Beware of 5th Floor!

  • June 13, 2008
  • Rated 2 of 5 by a traveler from Travelocity.com
If you are expecting a balcony, do not let them book you on the 5th floor, south tower, room 516 or higher. You will be looking at the roof of the mall next door. You'll also enjoy the fact that you can't even open your windows. Your wonderful view will include air conditioners, cigarette butts, beer bottles and other niceties. The front desk staff couldn't move me - even if we payed more and downgraded our room size (from 2-BR to 1-BR). No help at all. The pools were great, although they were engulfed in the shade after 1:30pm each day. Give it a lot of thought before you book at this crap-shoot of a hotel. You could win the room lottery or lose - like we did.

Excellent Beach Resort - Best Place on Daytona Beach!!!

  • May 6, 2008
  • Rated 5 of 5 by a traveler from Travelocity.com
My wife and I stayed in an ocean front room on the 11th floor of the South Tower for 4 nights. I was skeptical as reviews of this resort were both good and bad. Let me tell you, it was much more than I expected! Security was very friendly and visible at every entrance of the Hotel. The pools, grounds, and rooms were very well maintained. Although we rented a car, it was not needed as the hotel was located next a large movie theater, restaurants, bars, the pier, amusement/water park, and shopping. The resort itself contained 2 indoor pools, 2 outdoor pools, outdoor kiddie pool, 2 outdoor hot hubs, an arcade, and (most importantly) an awesome pool bar! The beach was private as traffic was not allowed in front of the Ocean Walk and a Life Guard was on duty during the day. We used the pool area between 8am - 4pm, and then moved down to the beach as the Hotel towers block the "pool sun" after 4pm. You must try the sitting beach bikes...We rented these for an hour one day ($10 per hour) and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We went a couple of miles North and South on the beach, and it was quite obvious that the Wyndham Ocean Walk Resort was the place to be! We were approached about time-share options at the front desk and on the beach, but you can't blame them for trying. Also, we had a room key issue that the front desk was able to resolve. With that being said, this resort is the real deal. My wife and I took this vacation w/o the kids, but will return soon with the kids as there is something here for ages. Beast place on the beach!!!

Long Walks on the Beach

  • May 1, 2008
  • Rated 4 of 5 by a traveler from Travelocity.com
My stay here was more for a business trip than a pleasure trip, but managed to enjoy a very nice long walk on the beach and some of the amenities the hotel has to offer. The balcony leading off the back of the room gave me an absolute wonderful view of the ocean and a balcony. One bedroom unit with a full kitchen, living area, king size bed, jacuzzi and shower. Conference rooms were nice and roomy, food was good, however the internet access in the conference room was very spotty wireless and did not work. Same in rooms, internet access was only available in the lobby. Easy access to the beach, great pool areas, the spa was nice and the fitness room was well equipped. Elevators could be slow at times and front desk staff was somewhat slow with check-in. Overall a nice stay and a nice room--would definately come back and bring the family.

Great location

Our stay started out a little shaky. If you don't happen to already have a room key when you arrive, you won't be able to park in the garage without assistance. There is an attendant on the front drive so it's not really a big deal, but signage would have been nice. We stood in line for about 20 minutes which is understandable since the hotel was quite busy. The bad part was finding out we were in the wrong line the whole time once we got to the front desk (again, signage would have been nice). After that, it was actually a really great stay! The hotel is well maintained and right on the beach. The rooms are nice and spacious. The ocean view from the balcony was phenomenal. Internet access in the room would have been nice (it seemed to work on lower floors actually), but there is wireless in the lobby. All in all, I would recommend this hotel without hesitation (just make sure you're in the correct line when you check in!).
