Lasting memories

We stayed in what they advertised as their "Garden Cottage" in July 2009 and these are some of our lasting memories of this hotel:
- Smashing large BUGS which crawled in from the outside, thru the large gap under the front door. (We were given a ground-level cottage.)
- Mold in the air conditioning unit.
- Three minute waits in the shower to get warm water, which then suddenly flucturates between scorching hot and freezing cold.
- Toilet which needs to be giggled everytime it's used to prevent it from leaking.
- Have to decide between a dimly-lit room or opening the shutters which allows everyone on the grounds to look into the room.
- Paying for a parking lot (a very long walk from most of the cottages) with no available spaces. (And then being told by the staff to just keep looking for a space.)
- Front desk staff which had absolutely no reaction (not to mention apology) when informed of these major maintenance issues.
Avoid the ground-level cottages. Better yet, avoid this outdated, poorly maintained hotel.

We have stayed twice at the Royal Lahaina. Our first trip was christmas 2008, 2nd trip spring break march 2009. We had such a great time we couldn't wait to get back. Our 2nd trip, we were so impressed by the staff. They had remembered us from our previous trip. The security gate always has someone to greet you with a smile a greeting "Mahalo, welcome home".We like the cottages, they are just steps from the beach. We loved taking walks every night & morning with our kona coffee from the coffee shop. The food is great! The drinks a slice of paridise, go visit the tikki hut and ask for X. Tell him his friends from Colorado say hi. The grounds have fruit trees that you can pick & eat. We eat star fruit, bananas & lemons. Snorkeling is great just a short walk down the beach to black rock. You can rent your gear at the activites center by the pool. If you are looking for a relaxing spot to visit this is the place for you. The beach is not crowded, and very clean. We actually caught a black rock crab, and some other kind. We saw whales, spinner dolphins and a sea turtle just steps from our cottage. We never spend much time in the room, so the cottages are perfect for us. The beds are comfortable, lots of pillows. There is also a coin-operated laundry-mat on the grounds if you need it. I honestly can not think of anything that was bad enough to complain about. Remember, you are on a tropical island there are lizards, flowers, ants, fruit, bugs, ocean and lots of sand!!!! We love it!!!

Chances are you got a good deal which means you will be staying in the cottages. The first thing you will get when you get there is a sales pitch to get you upgrade into the tower. If you are trying to keep costs down you will stay in the cottages. You will find a fresh coat of paint on a 50 yr old room. The room we were in, the towel rack was almost to fall off. We could hear every sound coming from outside, The shower was dirty and it took 5 min to get hot water. The siding doors on the closet were hard to open so I put the wheels back on ther tracks. There are only two small swimming pools to choose from. The nice thing was that it had a small fridge and a nice patio to sit at and eat our cold cerial every morning.

when we got to the hotel it was beautiful, when we got to our room we found that the beds we not double beds and im sure not full size beds either they were possibly a littler bigger than a twin bed like a twin and a half, well this was not good. we paid top dollar for this hotel and got bottom dollar accomidations. for anyone to get a good nights sleep it would have to be one person per bed the hotel offered to bring a roll away bed or air matterss but the room was too small and when i asked where they were going to put it they said yea your right it will not fit in the room, bottom line i paid $* a night i should not have to sleep on a air mattress or roll away bed. then they offered a king size bed well i dont think it appropriate for my husband and i to sleep in the same bed as my old friend whom we were visiting. bottom line i was charged extra by travelocity for the third person but the beds only fit 2 people. if my husband and i would have been there alone we would still have to have sleep in seperate beds, then we were shipped to the old hotel where there were 2 small beds and 1 couch later we found out from an employee those rooms went for $* a night. this was an all around nightmare. the new hotel is beautiful and clean the ratings are for the service and the old hotel he had to stay in, there are two building the new one and the old one

I booked our trip to Maui at the Royal Lahaina Resort with a garden view. Upon arrival I upgraded to the 12 floor partial ocean view (80%) for only $45.00 a night..absolutely ideal location, hotel room was totally clean and remodeled. Very impressive,,great deal. Will deffinately stay again.
TIP: The best rated Luau on the island is the Royal Lahaina Resorts and if you want a Luau book it at the hotel for your discount, Additionally for $15.00 you can get VIP seating at their Don the BEachcomber lounge for the VIP seating andf drinks in the lounge before the general addmission entrance into the show. I didn't do this and the hotel guest seating area was great.
