Really Needs More Renovation

The old adage is true - you get what you pay for. I "won" a night at the Flamingo for $57.00. I was hoping it would have a quirky appeal, but the hotel is just nasty! The official hotel's website has very misleading photographs - even the rooms have different lamps / furnishings pictured than what are actually in the guest rooms! Calling this place a resort is laughable.

The hotel is right off a busy highway and next to some rough looking apartment complexes. The hotel's property line is divided from the apartments with razor wire atop a wire fence! There is plenty of free outdoor parking for guests, but the mature landscaping is overgrown (as a female, I would never stay here alone - I would feel unsafe).

The common grounds are well kept with a very large pool area that has a decidedly vintage Vegas feel (think late 1960s / early 1970s). There are several tennis courts that are well kept too. The front desk staff was so friendly that I wish I had liked my stay more!

I was "upgraded" to a special "executive building." That means our room was supposed to be "nicer" than the standard buildings. The good thing is that in the executive wing, there is free (albeit spotty) wireless internet access.

I could tell that the rooms had been renovated, but it seems they stopped short of the furnishings and the bathroom! The shower was fine, with new tile, but the counter / sink was just gross. The floor appeared filthy, too - just dark tiles.

The towels here are a joke - PAPER THIN and very, very rough. I guess they are afraid their usual clientele is the type who likes to steal towels from the room! We kept on our socks the entire night just to avoid having to walk barefoot on the dirty carpet or disgusting bathroom tile floor!

The rooms aren't that bad, but they are comparable to a roadside motel like a Best Western. I will say that there is NO WAY this hotel is a 3 star property. It is a 2 star at best. Priceline should be ashamed having this listed as a 3 star.

The Flamingo Hotel in Santa Rosa, California

I really enjoyed my stay in a beautiful room. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud. The room was quiet and spacious. The reading chair was very comfortable and it's location was central to where I needed to go. The hotel staff was very helpful even when Travelocity had made several mistakes and were very rude to me. I am definately staying here again.

We only had a 1 night stay, but the Staff I spoke with were very friendly & courteous. Our room was clean & comfortable & quiet. If I go to Santa Rosa again for an overnight trip I would definetly stay @ the Flamingo Resort & Spa again.

The Flamingo is really great

we're experienced travelers and we loved the Flamingo. The funky "fifties" decor is fun but not really fifties - it's all upgraded but in a fifties style. The staff could not have been more helpful or friendly, the room was well appointed and quiet (we liked the giant flat panel TV on the wall), and the location is perfect - turn left and head for the wineries and Sonoma, turn right and you're in downtown Santa Rosa in five minutes. The restaurants and shops are in easy reach (Montgomery Village is a few blocks away) but above all, the people, responses to inquiries, and service were great. We left town, returned for another two days, and would stay here again for sure.

Economical hotel close to Wine Country

We stayed one night during the week at the Flamingo Resort and Conference Center in Santa Rosa. Because it was a Wednesday night an we reserved through Travelocity just two days ahead of time, we got a great rate of $68 a night. This hotel is on Highway 12 in the eastern part of Santa Rosa. All you need to do to get into the Wine Country is turn left on Highway 12 and you're on your way to Sonoma through the Valley of the Moon. Highway 12 also connects with 121 and 29 to take you to the Napa Valley in less than an hour, depending upon traffic and how many wineries you visit en route. Our room was good sized, quiet and very comfortable. The hotel dates from the 1950s and is a bit worn here and there, but the rooms have obviously been upgraded. I would recommend this hotel for a visit to the Wine Country. It's much less expensive than any accommodation in the Napa Valley, especially during the week.
