Great Location, Poor Accomodations

The Milford Plaza is in a great location at 44th St and 8th Ave. Many Broadway theaters are literally around the corner. That's about all that is good.
Our room was very small, maybe 8' x 9', and located behind the elevators. The room exit, through a long narrow passageway from the door, was partially blocked by furniture that did not fit the small space in the room (probably a fire code violation). The view of the television was blocked by the bathroom door. The "closet" was about 12" deep. The bath was smaller than on a cruise ship and far less well designed.
The shower had mildew in corners that had been partially covered with caulk and regrew through the caulk. Apparently, bleach is not a known cleaning product at the Milford Plaza. In general, the housekeeping was poor.
The bed was soft and saggy. The furnishings were well worn, poorly selected for the space available, and ugly.
This is not what one should expect for $300 per night, even in New York.
More expensive than Tokyo! No joke....

I was appalled that this very, very average hotel in New York costs DOUBLE what a five star luxury hotel recently cost me in Tokyo! I think New York is now more expensive than Tokyo. If you don't believe me, research the prices on travel online. At any rate, the Milford is no more than adequate, and in no way compares to what I got for my money in Japan. The rooms are tiny, even compared with those in Japan. At $1500 for the week, I'd call it highway robbery for what I got. However, the staff was very pleasant (unusual for New York), and helpful. The elevator system is quite good for a hotel this large. The decor and furniture is somewhat worn, and the closet was not big enough for two people to store their clothing. By New York standards this may be the best you can get for the price. By far, the ONLY reason to stay here is the location, which is one block from Time's Square, and the E and C trains are just outside the front door. But, in any other US city this place would be considered a dump. It's sad to see this city become so unreasonable and over the top expensive... I'm SO VERY GLAD I don't live in New York anymore (after 13 years of it, I'd had enough)... New York is a wonderful place to visit... you know the rest...!
Great Place!

The Milford Plaza is an old, 26 story hotel, in an excellent location, 1 block from Times Square. The room was clean, but small. We stayed on the 20th floor, and the view was awesome. The decor was up to date, and security was excellent. We had to show our room key to the security guards before they would let us enter the elevator area. The hotel is very clean, and the coffee shop inside is great. I will stay here again.

This is a first for me...writing a review. I have stayed at many many hotels in NY City for business over several years and this place was the worst. I know that rooms in NY are small and you don't spend much "time" in them but all and all it was bad. There are soo many other places to stay for the money they charge here.
Nothing but trouble -- never again

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Milford when I had to be in the city for business and we stayed to visit friends. I selected the Milford because it presented so well on its website and for its cost. The hotel is very old -- I was glad we weren't staying there in winter as the windows leaked severely. But that's to be expected in this price range. The place was CRAWLING with tourists, also expected given its location and price, but travelers should be warned -- it is an extremely hectic hotel with tour buses constantly coming and going, making it difficult to even access and filling the lobby at all times. I spent two hours trying to get their high speed internet to work and was never successful -- their router system constantly dropping. The cap on all of this and what will prevent us from ever staying at the Milford again or recommending it to others is that they overcharged me by over $300 on my credit card. I received a final bill that was in itself more than what they had committed in my reservation, but not by much, so I signed off on it through express checkout. Imagine my shock when they actually charged my credit card over $330 MORE than even that incorrect bill! I called them as soon as I found out and was routed through several assistants -- one of which had the gall to say "Well, you made some phone calls", as if that could explain it! I finally got an accounting representative who apologized and promised to refund the same day -- a week later I had to hassle them again, and the refund was STILL not what was promised! This place is not worth the trouble.
