Located close to the city's commercial centre and university area, Hotel Takioji Neris is a huge Communist-style concrete structure built in 1987 but restored thoroughly 10 years later. Occupying a central location not far from historical monuments, museums and shops, it is the ideal place for any budget traveller who wishes to spend a couple of days in the city.
From the three-domed Russian Orthodox Cathedral on Nepriklausomybes aikste, walk north on Gedimino gatve for about 40 metres. Turn left on Donelaicio gatve and walk west for another 30 metres. On your left, you can't miss the nine-storey stone coloured building of Hotel Takioji Neris which is set back from the road making the space in front of it ideal for parking. With a total accommodating capacity of 320 guests, this upgraded three-star hotel has 132 doubles, 39 singles and 9 suites. Each room has a fully equipped private bathroom, direct-dial telephone, satellite television and three-band radio.
Hotel Takioji Neris is certainly not a luxury hotel but nevertheless it offers a variety of amenities few other three-star hotels can match. The lobby and adjoining reception area are bright and spacious while the tourist centre housed on the ground floor offers numerous travel services such as car rental facilities, sightseeing tours, train and ferry reservations and more. A souvenir shop, a banquet room with conference facilities, 24 hour reception and porter service, laundry and valet service and an exchange office are all available. Guests can even pamper themselves in the hotel's excellent fitness centre and beauty parlour. Equipped with a sauna, a room for games and a heated indoor pool, this is the ideal place to relax after a day of sightseeing.
The hotel offers a good selection of dining and entertaining venues. The large entirely renovated European-style restaurant with a low ceiling and a wooden floor is popular with local clientele due to the vast array of dishes on offer. If you dine here, you will probably have the opportunity to watch a spectacular cabaret night show or a folk-dancing performance. You can also dine in one of the hotel's three restaurant-cafes where the atmosphere is great and the range of national and international cuisine is vast. For a drinking spree, why don't you visit the hotel's beer bar, an Irish-style pub where the atmosphere is one of keep-on partying?
The included-in-the-price well-assorted buffet breakfast leaves nothing to be desired. Besides the usual fresh fruit, ham, cheese and cereal, the breakfast includes a variety of hot delicious dishes and freshly-prepared salads.
The location and the wide range of amenities offered are the hotel's greatest assets. Add to these the good food, the friendly staff and the top-class atmosphere and you will understand why Hotel Takioji Neris has made giant steps forward since it has been upgraded.
