not what we expected

The hotel was ok, but not more than ok. The room service is not really available - when we called, they told us they had closed early because they had too little business. This complaint has been made by other travelers about this hotel. Our bathroom sink would not drain. There were many extra charges that we did not expect. The lobby was packed with really loud young people every night, so if you are looking for a place to take your prom date this might be the place. Not for the business traveler.

Not all it is hyped to be

I made reservations for my husband and sons for a weekend trip. There is no parking. The pool was smaller than the hotel room. In all everything that was guaranteed was not there. Disappointing in todays times. Will stick with an Embassy Suite or a Holiday Inn. There you know what you are getting guaranteed!

Modern and upscale, you get what you pay for

We really enjoyed this hotel, we had great rooms, and had a great experience....free internet was a plus for the teens in the group.........valet was quick and friendly.......front desk very helpful with resturant suggestions.........minibars were fabulous.......room decor was sleek and modern, very comfortable....had a couch the length of the wall with windows wall to wall, very nice touch, especially for my crew who loved to look out......no problems at all here, check in and out was quick AND ACCURATE.

"Modern" evidently equals cheap

We primarily choose our hotels for the room quality. Hotel Derek's rooms are incredibly small. The bathrooms barely afford you the ability to turn around. The decor is comprised of silver, brown and acrylic, with a bed barely inches off the ground. It is made complete with a nice touch of rope light which drape the shelves---and the television showing fake flames in the lobby fireplace---nice touch. The inability to park your own car and be forced to pay $ plus tips and taxes per day was an unwelcome surprise. You get a much better deal for your money at the Omni or the Hilton Post Oak.

The hotel is well situated if you want to spend lots of money at the Galleria. It is comfortable and well decorated in a contemporary style whcih should offend nobody but food is expensive and service apart from front desk slow. Front desk staff are efficient. Fine for a couple of nights on business
