Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf

Most of the major hotel chains now have a location on or near Fisherman's Wharf. This popular tourist spot in the bay area is a selling point for many tourists. These wharf chains are all a bit less fancy and less elegant than their sister properties near Union Square or in the Financial District. These properties mainly cater to tourists or conventions.

This was actually the first time I had ever stayed down on the Wharf and I admit I booked The Sheraton mainly for Starwood points.

When I first drove up, I have to admit I was underwhelmed. The hotel is a low, very modest four-story building. It looks more like a motor lodge. The lobby was a bit warmer with a fireplace and a long check-in desk. This is a popular hotel, and the lobby was packed with tourists and guests. Morning, noon and night the lobby seemed filled with people.

Our room was small, but comfortable. It had everything we needed. The Sheraton bed made up for a lot. It was thick, cozy and very comfortable. A blue duvet cover gave the room some much needed color.

Our side of the hotel was being worked on and there was scaffolding on the outside of our window, blocking the dull view of the office building next door. There are really no good views from this hotel. It's a block off the wharf, so don't expect to see boats bobbing in the water outside your room.

My one concern was that our window did not lock and would be easy to gain entry from the second floor with scaffolding up. I told the front desk, and they moved like lightning to get the problem fixed and seemed very concerned and sincerely sorry. They even gave me extra Starwood points for the trouble.

The staff was great. The hotel was packed and very busy. However not once did we ever sense any burn out or rudeness from the staff. Everyone from the maids to the valets always had a smile and a greeting. I am not sure how they do it, but the staff made you feel like a welcomed guest, even with this busy location.

I give the Sheraton high marks for making a somewhat plain hotel with small rooms and no views into a pleasant stay. They have tried to make the rooms comfortable, and the staff is first rate. If you have to stay at the wharf, this is a very good pick.

I have just returned from a three-night stay at the Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf, won through Priceline for $57 a night. I had no hiccups during check-in and was given a room with two double beds. The quality of the room and furnishings exceeded my expectations for the price paid. My fiancé and I had no problems with noise, smell, cleanliness, or service. Go to the website below to read my review of the hotel, and check out the bulletin board on how to get such a great rate for the hotel using Priceline.

The accomodations are beautiful. This hotel is the only four-star hotel in the Fisherman's Wharf area. The rooms are beautifully furnished and large. The bed was one of the most comfortable that I have experienced in a hotel room.

We had dinner one night and breakfast daily in the hotel restaurant. Service was most attentive and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Upon checkout, I noticed a minor error on my bill and called it to the attention of the front desk clerk. Not only did they immediately correct the bill, but they gave me an unexpected goodwill $20 discount to apologize for their error.

I have stayed at many hotels in San Francisco over the years and look forward to returning to this one.

One of my top requirements for going back to a hotel is that I get a good night pf rest. Since the answer in this case was no, I would venture to try other hotels again before going back to the Sheraton. While it could have just been a fluke and only my room, I still slept horribly.

The service and cleanliness on the other hand was impeccable. First off, when my husband and I checked in and were given our room keys, we were surprised they put us in a room with two double beds. I've been to many hotels that will ask what we prefer and in this case I didn't even think to specify a queen/king versus two double beds. After we walked back to the front desk and said, "My husband and I were given a room with two double beds," the lady was already clicking her computer to see if a room with a king was available. There was and so we moved. It was spacious and comfortable with a king bed in the middle, armoire with a TV across from it, and against the window was a small table and chairs. There was a desk with internet cable hookup across from the table, next to the bed. There was a small coffee maker with coffee, which was a nice touch. The view we had was of the courtyard.

The reason we slept horribly was there was no sound insulation. There was quite a big gap of space around the door and we could hear people closing their doors, talking, and walking in the halls, and even at some point, glasses clinking. It sounded like there was an elephant in the room above ours. The ceiling constantly creaked whenever they moved. Literally, I thought someone was pacing above us. Unfortunately for us, he/she was an extremely early riser. I can't remember when I've been in a place that the sounds carried through the walls so easily. I really expected more from a Sheraton in that regard. For me, no amount of service and cleanliness can make up for an awful night’s sleep.

Once again, we were sent to the Fisherman''s Wharf area of San Francisco on business - this time to the huge Sheraton at Fisherman''s Wharf. While not a choice I would make if traveling on my own, this Sheraton served our needs just fine. Like most hotels in Sheraton''s chain, the rooms at Fisherman''s Wharf were clean and nice but not spectacular, and service was dependable. The room included such amenities as a hair dryer, white terry robes and cable, but lacked an in-room safe. Most importantly, we had a high-speed Internet port in our room, which was very useful. Our room rate included a pretty good buffet breakfast each morning, which was available till 10:30 a.m.

The Sheraton is located within easy walking distance of two cable car lines, bus lines, Ghirardelli Square, and the ferry to Alcatraz. While the immediate area around the hotel is touristy, a short walk will get you to North Beach, with its outstanding Italian restaurants and funky shops. It is easy to access just about any part of the city from Fisherman''s Wharf - the cable car and bus routes are easy to follow.

In all, our experience at the Sheraton was a good one. What it lacked in trendy chic or small hotel coziness it made up for in convenience and efficiency. Plus, the staff was very nice and helpful. In all, the Sheraton is a safe bet.
