This hotel is on the edge of Georgetown with a nice bar and front terrace on Pennsylvania Avenue. What it lacks is a good restaurant. Breakfast was $40.00 for two - hot or cold buffet - Very expensive. The room was average but the staff was excellent.
Good location

We stayed for a week and found the location to be great. The hotel was nice but not really a four star hotel. While everything was clean the suite we had needed some work. The carpet had spots and the ceiling had water damage. They have one restaraunt and one lounge. We tried several times to have breakfast at the restaraunt but they were always closed for a private function. For the nine days we were there, we ate there once. The lounge was very nice but very short staffed so we did a lot of waiting. The staff was very pleasant and for the most part very helpful.
Not bad but small...

We (3 of us) recently stayed at The Melrose for 3 nights.
It was an acceptable stay for the most part. The Melrose staff were polite and helpful and quick to assist us with directions, questions, whatever. The rooms were rather small and the bathroom was like a closet. Also our hallway up on the 3rd floor smelled like mildew. The 32" LCD TV would have been nice had it worked properly, unfortunately to operate the LodgeNet system required an engineering degree. Also, I found the added expense of $32 for daily parking exorbitant. By the way, the "available internet"? Not free.
The hotel is located in a decent area of Georgetown and within a 10 minute walking distance of restaurants, shops and a CVS pharmacy.
Step up from a hostel...nothing redeemable about this place

I've traveled Europe in my college days and stayed in better places than this. For the price there certainly isn't a comparison. Luckily my company paid for it otherwise I'd be very upset. Nothing redeemable about the place. Nice doorman....restaurant and bar staff poorly trained and slow. Food is bad, even for hotel food. I travel 30% of the time for work and honestly it would rate in the bottom 10% for value.
Disappointing at best

While I knew I was taking a leap of faith to stay here, given the reviews thus far in this section from travelers, I certainly learned a lesson. I was on a budget for work and didn't have much of a choice It's really just a basic Comfort Inn in disguise. First of all, it's very YELLOW. The second rate fabrics in the rooms seemed old and stale. The wall coverings are very dated and much of it in need of repair/replacement. Someone had smoked in my nonsmoking room which I hate....upon calling the front desk to ask about getting another room I was told that "the person who handles that is out to lunch" and would give me a call back when they return. Needless to say I never got the call. The food in the restaurant had about all of the inspiration of a wet sponge. I found out later in the week that Georgetown was blocks away and took advantage of those restaurants the remainder of my stay. I met colleagues in the bar area which had a nice atmosphere but there was an overriding smell of stale beer, which reminded me of my college days and the college bars where you feet stuck to the floor because there was so much beer spilled on the floor. Anyway, if it's basic accomodations, this is the place but it ain't cheap. Oh, almost forgot that I went to workout in the "gym" which was a 10 x 15 foot room with one wall of mirrors and five pieces of equipment....two of which had signs on them that they were broken. Do your homework and research because there are certainly better values in Washington, DC other than this place. nothing redeeming other than being close to the metro.
