Watch out for the daily resort fees

  • November 25, 2008

After booking this trip, I found out from another website that The Station Casinos have substantially increased their daily resort fees from what was once a reasonable amount ($4.95, IIRC) to at least $9.95 (Palace Station, this trip). Their newest resort, Aliante Station, has a daily resort fee of $14.95 (source, on line website). Notwithstanding the financial issues that all Las Vegas resorts are enduring, I would like to see The Station Casinos rethink this most unwelcome increase in daily resort fees, particularly when at least one other competing chain has not as yet followed (Boyd Gaming).

I chose this hotel because it had a good price and was located close to the strip. The airport shuttle is a great amenity. The shuttle to the strip is $5 per person in each direction which I feel is overpriced. The courtyard room I first went into was VERY SMOKY and I had to request another room because I am allergic to. The next room was not smoky but seemed small with two beds. I had requested a king but for unknown reasons I did not receive what I had requested. Hallway was also very smoky and the courtyard rooms are supposed to be NONSMOKING. Hotel front desk agent, front desk was very friendly and changed my room when I rang to say it had been smoked in. She checked me in and out and was very easy to deal with. The rooms have no coffee makers in them, which I thought was strange. The rooms also only had showers, no bath. I was also surprised about that. The casino was very large but in some sections it had a very stong smoke odor. (Other casinos on the strip were not like this) The Italian restraunt was nice and had a romantic feel. The pub was fun and I enjoyed the music.

I stayed in a tower room and had a great view. My room was clean and the staff was helpful especially the concierge. The breakfast buffet is a terrific way to start the day. There is a shuttle to the strip every hour but it fills up fast. The city bus stops in front of the hotel if you can't get on the shuttle. It gets you to the strip in about 5 minutes.

We attended the SuperZoo Pet Convention and stayed two nights at Palace Station. Staff were very friendly to us. Was nice and clean. The buffet was priced very reasonably and had some good entrees on both the supper and breakfast meals. We did not rent a car and we were gratefull for the shuttle to the Tropicana and The Fashion Mall which was close to the strip. The drivers were very friendly to us. We did have one problem with the check-in but it was not the Hotel fault travel agency did not have the rooms listed in our name.So we were a little worried for a while but all turned out fine!!!! I would definetily stay there again.

We stayed in early Aug and arrived to a room smelling of smoke, my travelling friends the same though we were assigned non-smoking rooms. The desk immediately gave us a new room though my friend and his family had already unpacked and stayed. To accommodate them, they were going to the pool and the staff quickly put in an "ionizer" to remove the smell. My wife is handicapped and they went out of their way to help her navigate as well. This is not a negative review. This is the 3rd and not the last time we've stayed there. The staff was kind and polite and most helpful. And this only housekeeping and front desk services. The rooms are clean though the addition of a fridge and microwave would be appreciated. We use this place to ferry family and friends back and forth to McCarran and for the price and amenities I don't think I'll use anyone else in Vegas. In addition the staff in the restuarants and on the casino floor are most helpful and have a great friendly demeanor. My wife thought it was really cool that after 2 months she goes to a table and the dealer looks at her and goes "Last time your nails (women! I swear) were green!", they giggled and and I headed for a less giggly environment. T. Shipley of Cedar
