Courtyard Rooms are 1-star quality. Tower rooms are 3 star

There is night and day difference between the courtyard and tower rooms. We were first given the courtyard room, but after spending no more than 15 minutes in there, we asked to be moved (it was that or leave hotel entirely). The room was very noisy with hallway noise as well as foot traffic from room upstairs. It smelled strongly of cigarrette smoke (non-smoking room), was cramped, had a tiny bathroom with pedestal sink and corner shower, and carpet was frayed and torn--a definite dumpy feel. We were very pleased with the tower room we were provided--very roomy, large bathroom, chair/ottoman, reading lamp, free internet access, and approx. 42" television. What a positive difference! My only complaint with this new room the conversations clearly heard in the room next door till the wee hours of the morning. Also, the hotel description states the hotel is only minutes away from the strip. It will take their shuttle to get there as you cannot walk to the strip and you're restricted to their one and only drop off point at the strip and to their limited pick-up and drop off times--proved to be a hassle. The extra charges of $+/day could not be avoided despite my polite attempt to eliminate them with the desk clerk. They did, however, provide a free daily b'fast buffet from a clean, on-site restaurant.

After reading the reviews on line, we decided to book a tower room instead of a courtyard room. The room was very satisfactory, especially for the money. We got a very good rate online for Wed. & Thur. nights and not as cheap, but none the less a good rate for a weekend for Friday night. Because we needed to be across the street from the hotel, it made it a very convenient place to stay. The free shuttle to & from the strip made getting there and back very easy, The free shuttle to the airport was a very good perk, you just had to make sure you watched the time carefully as it you missed one it would be 1 1/2 hours until the next one.
we did have an issue with the noise from another room .
Courtyard rooms are older part of Palace Station Hotel

Courtyard rooms are older part of hotel but near the pool and spa. Rooms have recently been upgraded and the bathrooms with new tile showers. The first room that the front desk gave me was horrible. Musty smell, cigarette burns on the carpet and window facing employee entrance and loading dock but when I requested a room change, they happily switched me to a nicer room. Beware of the $16.00 Resort charge. All that you get is access to the fitness center and long distance calls from the room phone. Another problem was that the ice machine on my floor was not working so I had to go to another floor the find a working ice machine.
Hidden Fees at Palace Station - Stay Away!

The booking price for the Palace Station hotel is misleading. The hotel charges $16 a day for a pool fee at the front desk, even if you don't use it.
In spite of arriving at 8:30pm, the front desk refused to waive the pool fee for even that day. On the last day of a four night stay, I again asked for a partial credit since we never used the pool. They refused and the curt reply was, "Look at this way, today we are raising the pool fee."
That means that with over a thousand rooms, the hotel is raking in $16,000 a day to maintain a pool that is used by only a few guests.
The other problem was the greatly reduced shuttle service to the strip. On my first visit three years ago, the shuttle to the strip was hourly and stopped at the northern (Fashion Mall) and southern end (Tropicana) of the strip.
Today, the shuttle starts service late in the afternoon at 4pm. Because the hotel is so far away from the strip, there is nothing to see except the busy roadway. It costs about $17 in taxi fare to get to the strip each way.
The hotel is a bad deal. Very unhappy and will not be staying there again.
