Nice hotel, but call ahead to confirm

I will be the first to admit that my complaints about this hotel stem from one bad experience, but it was really a bad experience. We were late check-ins and, even though I had requested non-smoking rooms, they had given our rooms away, and we were stuck with smoking rooms. Fortunately, the windows open, or I would have been in trouble. The staff found a few candles for me, and the bedding at least did not smell like smoke. The bar staff is wonderful, very friendly, knowledgeable, easy-going. I just ate breakfast, not dinner, but it was great, and plentiful. The staff, overall, was very friendly and, while checking out, when I commented on the fact that my room was less than ideal, they did try to make it right by giving me a 50% credit on my bill.
Downsides-this hotel can be difficult to find if you don't know the area, even with GPS, and the front desk staff is clueless when it comes to giving directions. The manager's reception when we arrived included a lounge act which was really WAY too loud and annoying to be relaxing.
