The Somerset Gordon Place is situtated just east of Chinatown on Little Bourke Street - minutes from the Bourke Street Mall and the free City Circle tramline that takes you all over Melbourne. Somerset Gordon Place is located in a Heritage Listed Site (the property is about 100 years old) and has a central glass roofed atrium which is simply stunning.
You almost cannot ask for more in these suites - fantastic layout, clean, washer / dryer and a office alcove with window overlooking Little Bourke Street in the suite I stayed in and the most ameniable and friendly staff you could wish for.
There are a couple of things to note, however:
1. Breakfast not included (however there is a reasonable (and I mean very reasonable) coffee shop on site and supermarket (Woolworths) and liquor stores in walking distance;
2. Wireless internet is prohibitively expensive ($* per hour or $* for four hours). Take my cue and get free wireless internet at the State Library (a 6 minute walk and requiring you to simply register with them) or in the food court at Australia on Collins (a shopping mall, about a 10 minutes walk away).
The Somerset Gordon Place is also on the Skyway Aiport Shuttle Bus route, which connects you through to the Airport ($* return).
There are deals to be had at this hotel - I stayed for AUD $* per night (about CAD $* per night), but booked three months in advance.
If you're on business or simply want something a little more for your money, go no further than Somerset Gordon Place... and if it's booked up, the Somerset Gordon Heights is directly opposite and due to open soon.
