There is no bad place in Hawaii!!

This was my first visit to the Islands, so I would have been excited and thrilled no matter where I'd stayed. After reading many reviews, I opted for The Sand Villa. For the price, this is an excellent place to stay. It's old, but definitely clean and adequate. The staff was awesome, the security personel were visible at all times, (which I really appreciated), and the housekeepers could not have been sweeter. Meeting the locals working at the Sand Villa was a pure delight. The beautiful pool was too cold to swim in, however, we wanted to spend more time swimming in the ocean anyway. This hotel is a short walk from the beach and all the excitement of Waikiki. I would advise trying to get a room away from the noise along Ala Wai Blvd., which was crazy and loud late into the night. One activity you don't want to miss is Dolphin Excursions! OMG!!! Also, be sure to bring lots of money for The International Marketplace, where you can get good deals if you are willing to politely barter. Spam Jam was a blast! I can't wait to go back same time next year, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay at The Waikiki Sand Villa.

Great location, good deal

A basic hotel in prime waikiki location catering to the Japanese tourist trade - if you're not hanging out in the hotel this is the place for you - three blocks off of Waikiki beach across the street from the Food Pantry grocery store - skip the breakfast (coffee was hot though weak, pineapple canned) and go to Food Pantry for great coffee & bakery items instead- 10th floor has upgraded bathrooms - though drag racing late at night next to the canal. We spent one night at the Waikiki Hyatt and after decided for the price (3 nights at Waikiki Sand Villa vs 1 night at Hyatt) we'd return to the Waikiki Sand Villa. (My daughter loved the pool - has an small island in the middle she could swim around)....

Good Place On a Budget

I stayed here with my boyfriend to celebrate my graduation from college. The only major compliant I had was they put us in a room with a double and single bed, and would not give us a room with one bed without paying a fee to be upgraded. We did not want to be upgraded, we just wanted one bed. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and we loved the bar downstairs. The food was not good! but the bar prices were great and we made a lot of local friends. I would recommend staying here if your not planning on spending a lot of time in your hotel, but your in Hawaii so why would you want to be in a hotel anyway! If your going on a budget and want to have fun, stay here.

Will Stay Again

My son and I spent 1 week at the Sand Villa and we loved it. It was only 3 blocks from the beach and practically everything else. We slept with the balcony doors open every night, the breeze is incredible you don't need air conditioning. We didn't rent a car we walked everywhere, everything was so close. My 11 year old son definatley recommends this hotel for the pool, if we weren't at the beach or out walking he was in the pool day and night. The only thing I would comment on is the continental breakfast, its not much, toast, little crossiants and a little cup of fruit. Your better off going to the ABC store 1 block away and grabbing something there like there half of a pineapple or going to Denny's, great service and food.

Arrived 5/31, 6/2 elevator renovations began and wil continue for 6 months. No advance warning of renovations, little remorse from Hotel staff. Noise is unbearable, I'm eaving today. Note: The Ko'olina Resort I checked out today had the timerity to tell me of their construction PRIOR to my booking it.
