First time in NYC-expected high price but thought the room would have a little more going for it,Heating unit made lot of noise and bed took 90% of space. But it was steps from Times Square, Broadway and bus tour. Location, location, location!!

When I was planning my trip to NYC I came to this site looking for a hotel and came upon the Paramount hotel. Almost all of the reviews are negative so I thought, after my trip, I'm going to add my own review. I chose to stay here because I got the room at a discount (I was actually upgraded to a Queen sized bed when I arrived) and because of the terrific location.
Based on the reviews I wasn't expecting much, but I found the staff to be very helpful - especially the concierge desk. When I went up to my room I found that although I'd booked a non-smoking room I was on a smoking optional floor. The elevators have funky lighting in them and when I got off at my floor the hallway carpets are stained - as some reviews have mentioned. The room isn't large but I was travelling on my own so it didn't matter. The bed was very low to the floor but comfortable and clean. The bathroom was tiny and I had to sit sideways on the toilet, but otherwise it was okay. The shower/bath had very poor water pressure - it took so long for the tub to fill up that I turned it off part way and took a bath in a few inches of water. The hairdryer outlet in the bathroom didn't work so I had to unplug the tv and use the outlet there. The safe provided in the room was fine.
Like I mentioned, I came to the hotel not expecting much so it was OK. Besides, if you're going to NYC you are not going there to stay in your room are you?

My wife and I laughed when we first entered the room. Our room was very small and the beds are even smaller. We stayed in a standard room (supposedly a double bed but really a twin bed). I am 5'7 and my wife is 5'3'' and we barely barely fit our bed. My feet almost hung over the bed. Also, I had to walk sideways to manuever in the room. I have never seen a hotel room this small We called our room the "lunchbox".
The lobby has an interesting look. It felt something out of the movie, Beetlejuice.
Not a 3-star-should be a 2

While in a great location for Broadway plays, the room was just too puny, marginally clean, and extremely awkward to use. The bed is close to the floor, the shower plumbing circa 1930's (constant adjustments needed to maintain water temp) and the paint and plaster peeling.
Surprise!

Don't be misled by the pics of the rooms on the web site! Rooms are tiny, bed sat on floor (no frame). If I spread my arms, I could touch opposite walls. The lobby gives the illusion of a 5-star hotel, the rooms are 2-star. Great if location is important, and you just need a place to sleep for a few hours.
