Great New Hotel

We spent four nights at the Holiday Inn on 26th Street and loved it. Check in was lightning fast, the rooms were clean and bigger than I expected. The bed linens are wonderful and having two choices of pillows (soft or firm) was a nice added touch. I know that some people have complained about having to wait for an elevator in this hotel but during my stay, I never had to wait more than 3 or 4 minutes for a lift. I like the fact that they have a free 24-hour business center in the building. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. I will be staying at this hotel when I visit NYC again.

The hotel lobby is dimly lit and looks like a cheap 70's disco. The reception desk is poorly staffed. The rooms are miniscule and cheaply outfitted. I had to pay * to "upgrade" from a full sized bed even though I had paid for a queen sized. The elevators are slow when working at all. To get downstairs at peak times we had to let two or three go by because they were full. (only one out of 4 elevators was working) The hallways are dimly lit. Even at * a night this place was not worth it. Avoid at all costs.

Same-old, same-old

I stayed at The Paramount about 10 months ago and paid around * per night. We were supposed to stay 5 nights but left after the second. For another * I got a room in the Marriott Marquis 'next door' It was like moving to Beverly Hills from Somalia... Our room was VERY small and the bathroom looked like something out of a bad comic skit on cheap hotels in Eastern Europe... PLEASE do yourself a favour & stay ANYWHERE else...

Never again

The hotel was under renovation, and because of the scaffolding, the taxi passed the hotel twice, so they need to get their name out there better. The hotel lobby was quite dark and almost gloomy. There was not enough staff at check in so I waited close to 15 minutes for that. My room was one of the renovated ones, in deco/retro colors of red, black and white. The room was clean, but low and behold, the bed was a pull out couch, which was never stated that way on the website. It wasn't your usual pull out mattress and was quite thick and comfortable, however I had no sheets or pillows for the bed. I called to front desk 3 times over an hour long period, and finally fell asleep with no pillows or bed linens ever arriving. When I spoke to management the next day, I got an apology, but no compensation as to a discount, a drink or meal in a local bar or anything.

Far inferior to a Motel 6!!

It's "location location location" for the Paramount Hotel you should add "location" a few more times. The location is great and that is the only thing good about them. First night the AC failed. It was 80 degrees and humid. I was soaking wet with sweat. Opening the window required strength, brought little relief and the constantly honking horns. They supplied no services guide to tell me how to call the front desk. I could find no icemaker and no ice bucket in the room. In the morning I reported everything to the front desk and was told it would be taken care of. After being gone all day, the AC was still broken, no ice bucket and no hotel guide. I spoke to the manager and finally the hotel engineer came up to check the AC. The engineer said AC needed to be off for at least an hour to thaw. After 90 minutes, it still would not work. On second trip to see the manager, I requested an extension cord. I used the hair drier to thaw the coil and get the AC to work. But, what if I didn?t have 12 years experience as a refrigeration tech? The ice bucket and hotel guide were still absent when I checked out. Their website claims, ?recently renovated?. Yet, I had to dodge scaffolding to get in. The manager blamed their problems on ongoing renovations. For $44.99 a night I expect a LOT better. For the $150 a night they charged they were pathetic. The manager did discount my second night. But, I would rather have paid full price at another hotel than go through this for free. I saved for years for this vacation and spent much of it exhausted and dehydrated. I would never stay there again.
