Wonderful Hotel

A return visit to the beautiful island of Oahu and to the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. This Hotel offers everything you need for a stay in Waikiki from nicely decorated rooms, friendly staff and lovely views of the beach. The location is perfect for all downtown activites including a hike up Diamond Head to a concert at The Shell (Jimmy Buffett). The International Marketplace is directly across the street for a little shopping as is Jimmy Buffett's at the Beachcomber for some food, drink and entertainment. For a nice and relaxing breakfast with views of Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach I recommend Duke's(located in the lower level of the hotel) and if you're there on a Sunday check out Henry Kapono performing to a joyous crowd. So relax by the beach, have a Mai Tai and oh yeah...take a surfing lesson...you won't regret it.

I Stay Here Again and Again

I've been to this property several times. It's been consistently good through the years. There are good dining options on property. Duke's is the fun beach level restaurant. It is always busy and can be a long wait during the high season but Chuck's and Hula Grill both have better food. The hotel staff is usually super friendly and accomodating. There is valet parking but also easy indoor self parking if you prefer. The beach front is lovely with great swimming and sports, but it is not isolated. This is a busy Waikiki hotel. I tend to love that as I used to live in NYC. While children are always around, I wouldn't say this hotel caters to families with young children. A+ location with plenty to do on the beach or on the street.

Great hotel but extremely noisy location

We liked this hotel a lot; it was clean, the staff is terrific. Loved the evening show with S.O.S., really enjoyed the food in the restaurants. However, the restuarants don't take reservations, and sometimes the wait to eat was pretty long. We don't understand WHY they don't take reservations. Also, we just didn't realize in advance how noisy it would be. We were awakend about 5 am every morning with the "beep-beep-beep" of garbage trucks and delivery trucks backing up. And the bands - both at the hotel and from bars down on the street- were thumping long into the night. We came for the Pro Bowl, so that was part of it; still, we aren't young anymore and weren't into the flirting scene, and could have used a little more rest. Next visit, will probably look for a quiet B&B someplace. But if you want downtown Honolulu, this hotel would probably be good for you.

Great location, good value for price

Nice, clean hotel with a great location. Hotel is right on the beach (beach is crowded - but we had a rental car and could drive to less crowded beaches). Hotel is also in the heart of Waikiki with GREAT shopping, restaurants and nightlife right outside the door. Food at hotel restaurants was good. Service was good. Rooms are average (size, ammenities, comfort). We had an "ocean view" room - so we could see part of the ocean, but a majority of our view seemed to include the top of the Cheesecake Factory next door (w/ fans and loud air conditioners)....we didn't care b/c we spent very little time in our room, but if you are looking for a perfectly relaxing experience, this probably isn't it. The hotel is located on the main drag though Waikiki, so the street is often is often busy and loud - we couldn't hear the street noise while in our room, but obviously we could from outside on our balcony. This didn't bother us at all. We had a great trip, and this was our second stay at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. For the price, this is a great value. you can park your car underneath the hotel for $10/day (valet). Surfboards are for rent on the beach outside the hotel, and most anyone can surf the waves of Waikiki. Bigger waves can be found on the north shore (for more advanced surfers - not me). Great view of Diamond Head - which is a short drive away.
