drain problems

My family stayed at the Holiday Inn Sarasota- Lido Beach as we have for 3-4 years for a scientific conference. The location is hard to beat being close to the beach and St. Armands, so no complaints there. In fact, location trumps almost anything else. This time, however, we had a plugged up shower drain that plagued us for 5 of the 6 nights. Water was up to our ankles after every shower. Even after it was "fixed" the problem quickly returned. This is tolerable at a lower budget hotel, but considering the price paid per night, terribly annoying. No compensation was offered, only a "thank you for letting us know". Also, automatic "tip" included in restaurant at top of hotel and there were only three of us, so you need to check the bill to make sure it is to your liking. Finally, the beds needed replacing as they collapsed in the center. Not impressed this time around.

Fitness center is very limited (Cardio only, no weights) and equipment is outdated. Water cooler and towel supply were always depleted. Service in both restaurants is very very slow without acknowledgement. Food is pricy for the selection and quality. "Kids eat free" is only for ordering off of the very limited kids menu. Property is close to St. Armands Circle, which is nice, however the beach is accross a busy street and view was usually blocked by travel trailers parked alongside. Pool is small and seating is not ample for this size hotel. We needed our room vacuumed and called to the front desk as well as left a note - nothing was done. There was also construction going on behind the hotel which was not noted on online travel website or the hotel's website. Very loud, very early!

Hotel was okay but not great. I expected more from this chain. The bathroom was very small with no fan, only a light. Bathroom had a very small area for tolietries. The hairdryer only works if you hold the button at all times. The complimentary shampoo and soap were poor quality but adequate. Coffee was lousy. Towels were clean but thin. The shower preasure was terrible. If you like a good shower forget this. The TV did not work properly. Room was tight, could bearly get by the bed. On a brighter note, the bed was nice and comfortable and the view was spectacular. Next time we will try a different location

I loved staying at the holiday inn on lido beach. The workers were very friendly and helpfull. Great food for breakfast, lunch and dinner and good drinks. Clean rooms and the hotel. I'd stay again and I will next time I return to sarasota. Great location, we walked to the circle a couple times a day. We didn't even need a car. The beach was clean and beautiful, lots of shells, dolphins jumping, manates in the water way behind the hotel. I could go on and on. We also loved our balcony faceing the gulf

I stayed here in September, so it was pretty quiet. Facility is well-maintained but a bit in need of a facelift. Room was fine. Staff very cordial. A lovely pool, even with the Gulf just a short stroll across the street. Restaurant for breakfast was good, if a bit pricey. I'd recommend it.
