VERY DISAPPOINTED - Dirty Room!

We were very disappointed w/ our hotel room. The staff (guest services especially) were very polite, professional, & helpful. The room was not cleanly: Four live Roaches; under the bed was dusty & dirty; the bathroom was dirty the tiles in tub had mold in grout & tub & tiles were dingy looking; splashes of toothpaste, soap, dirty water on walls, door & floor; the bathroom looked very cheap & tile, counter, & floor were mismatched. We found four live ROACHES in room & it was sprayed by housekeeping twice w/ spray to no avail. The room furniture was nice though. The hotel is about four city blocks away from Waikiki, NOT one as the hotel description claims. The view from the room was of a parking garage or other buildings. Although the room was a HUGE DISAPPOINTEMENT the staff members were great.

This hotel is in a great location for bars & night life. I wouldn't recommend it if you have small children or want to sleep soundly. The bars close about 2-3 am and there is one located on the first floor. People talk loudly, laugh or fight. While we were there, someone got knocked out across the street. We stayed on the 4th floor. It is a good location for dining within walking distance, with a variety of options from Jack in the Box across the street to Dennys & Chilis a few blocks away. Be aware that many of the small dining establishments require cash payment for meals, but we never had a bad meal. The beach is within walking distance. If you are not used to walking a lot it may be a challenge. It was about 4 blocks all together. The beach is VERY crowded during the daytime, suggest a sunset visit. The "Duke" statue with the webcam is about another block away & fun to visit & call home to have people watch you on camera. The room we had was nice, but as mentioned before, old. There were 2 queen beds, which is rare in Waikiki. The bathroom is small, but adequate. The staff were all friendly & helpful. I would suggest a visit to the travel desk as soon as you arrive, so they can help you with your plans. I HIGHLY recommend a visit to the Polynesian Cultural Center. It is worth taking the whole day. About transportation: we bought a 4 day bus pass for $20 (per person). Normal bus fare is $2 each person, each way. Be aware that parking at this & most hotels is $20 per day. Most of all ENJOY, it's Hawaii!
Nice place, centrally located

Hotel has been newly renovated. We were upgraded to a suite, which was very nice. Balcony looked out over Duke's Lane. Walking distance to lots of restaurants, and Waikiki beach is only a couple of blocks away. Saw a concert at Royal Hawaiian Showroom and stayed so we didn't have to drive all the way home to the North Shore. Good value for the money. Would definitely stay there again and recommend it to my friends and family.

We stayed at the aqua waikiki wave march 12 thru march 19 2009. Very nice the most comfortable beds I have ever sleep on even my own. Service was very very good. We were on the 16th floor so noise was not an issue. Part of the family stayed here and part of the family stayed at much much more expensive hotel in waikiki. The rooms were almost idenitical but their room was not cleaned and beds were not made everyday and our's were. I would gladly stay here again if I go back to waikiki but to be honest I would rather stay where it is not so conjested. If I were to go back to hawaii I would rather stay a little futher outside of waikiki. I think it is a disgrace how all the hotels in waikiki that we checked charges for parking. This on charged 20.00 per day but the one some of the family stayed charged 25.00 per day.
Great value and location. But be warned.

Let me say from the outset that we loved the value that the Aqua Wave offered. It was the highlight of our short stay in Oahu. I was a bit leary of booking a nonrefundable reservation based of some of the negative reviews on an online travel website, but after staying there, we are glad that we did!
Perhaps the most important thing to note as a prospective guest is that the hotel is old. Although the new owners- Aqua Corp, have updated the rooms with new paint, carpet, beds, marble countertops and updated furniture, its bones date back to the 60s. Because of this, there are old windows and some of the infrastructure needs replacing. The biggest impact to guests staying on the hotel are things like slow elevators, outside noise leaking in through the old windows (especially at 5am when the trash truck paid a visit) and tile in the bathroom showing its age.
Our family of three stayed there for one day in September of 2008 and were greeting promptly with a smile. They upgraded our room to a one bedroom suite (rm 1215) with a nice ocean view and three beds. We only paid slightly more than the base rate.
None of this deficiencies eclipsed our like of the property. It is clear to us that the folks at AGUA are trying to make a name for themselves by offering a good value and convenient location to guests with a bit of style. And on that goal, they are on target.
Overall, we were very satisfied and will return. I'd suggest that if you are staying for a short stay, the WAVE cannot be beat due to its location and value. However if you are staying longer, say on a honeymoon, I would look elsewhere.
