From the moment we checked into the New Haven Hotel to the hours we spent online checking out, was a nightmare. The front desk clerk? There was only ONE person working there at all times, no other extra personnel manning the front desk, just ONE. Parking was across the street, I was given a pass card which worked one time and failed all the other times. Exiting the garage the card would not work, I had to leave the car there and walk across the street to revalidate the car's card. No room service, no valet btw. The restaurant is closed. The breakfast buffet was good, but don't ask the only waitress on staff for your bagel to be toasted, because her answer will be the toaster is broken. The room...well this is where it gets better...both beds had torn bedspreads, the sheets had stains in them as well as the pillow cases. Stains were the motif as the carpet had it's variety of marks as did the walls. The walls were touched up in a whiter shade of paint, but only in patches. There weren't many electrical outlets, not the usual outlets on the bottom of the lamps, the desk did not have any connections too. There was only one roll of toilet paper, only two glasses. The maid forgot to clean our room, but we got two free breakfast buffets, but we couldn't have anything toasted. Our friend's room had a very small television while ours was larger. The mattress almost flipped off the bed a few times. The switch on the airconditioning panel was broken. When we checked in, the phone wasn't plugged in. $*** a day, yea ok....

Stay here only if you must

I put up several family members here for a family event. They had a total of 3 rooms. Their experience was terrible. First, the front desk staff was incredibly incompetent and rude. The reservation had been put under a mis-spelled name (their mistake) and they were not at all helpful. They were nasty to my elderly father, in response to his asking about the pool's being closed. The valet service was terrible--we sat in the car for at least 2-3 min while the 2 valets clearly argued about who would "serve" us. Their service then consisted of asking us if we needed parking--they made NO effort to help with luggage (not even for my elderly parents). The pool, as I mentioned, is closed. The restaurant is also closed, except for a minimal breakfast buffet. The rooms were merely adequate, old and not well-equipped (which would have been ok, if the rest of the experience wasn't so horrible). The price was $139 per night, not cheap, particularly for the awful experience my family had. The ONLY thing this hotel has going for it is location. Stay here only if you can't get into the Omni...and even then, I would think twice about it.

Stay here only if you have no other choice

We came to New Haven so my daughter could check out Yale. When I drove up the valet make no effort to help us get the bags out of the trunk. He was pretty rude in general. Then when we checked in the receptionist said without apology that only a single room was available, this despite the fact that I had specifically reserved a room with two beds, and had a clear confirmation of that fact. When I protested this she simply said that if we didn't like it we could go stay elsewhere. I have rarely encountered staff so rude. Certainly this was not the first time that a hotel has provided me with a room that's not what I had reserved, but the rudeness I experienced here is in a class of its own. Imagine telling a customer to go somewhere else at 9pm! On the plus side this hotel is within walking distance of Yale. The room is OK, nothing to complain about.

best place to stay in new haven!

i would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the new haven area. it was very clean and well-kept. most of the staff were very friendly and willing to help. i had dinner and breakfast from Templeton's (the hotel restaurant) and both meals were excellent. the hotel also provided complimentary shuttle service and the driver was very kind and accommodating! i would change nothing about the experience
