We joked nightly about hearing rats in our room, but this is probably unfair to the hotel, because all in all, it was a very clean place. I've never stayed in the expensive hotels in NYC, but don't expect much from any of the moderately priced properties. The fact is, most buildings in the Big Apple were built many years ago and they are just not in the condition that new hotels in more modern cities may be. The view from our room was not particularly fascinating, but we had relatively cheap accommodations. A higher price per night may have yielded a view of Broadway and the famous large screens that hang from the buildings in Times Square. We were looking at the side of another building and down at 47th Street, which compared to Broadway, looks like a large alley! A final word on hotels in the city: Don't believe everything you hear about NYC accommodations. They're not all overpriced. Yes, it costs money to stay in the center of the Capital of the World, but it is well worth it. The close proximity to surface and subterranean transportation cannot be beat. I know people who have stayed in New Jersey and taken the ferry over to Manhattan every day, but that seems a little inconvenient to me. In sum, the inside of your hotel is not even close to the most amazing thing you'll see in New York, so don't worry too much about it.
