Nice staff, rooms need attention, not a great value

We stayed Thanksgiving weekend. Convenient to all tourist attractions - easy walk to Rockefeller Center, Radio City, theaters and Times Square. Parade outside the front door. Staff was courteous, pleasant. Rooms and hallways are small - could use updating. No luxury here but fine basics. NO ONSITE PARKING though bellman is on ground floor. We were nervous about leaving our bags unattended at the ground entry so we carried them ourselves. No in-room coffee makers. A little overpriced.
What an unpleasant surprise

The sleek European vibe of the lobby / bar provides a deceiving first impression. The room I was given was dirty, shabby, had suspicious looking stains on the sheets and smelled smoky/musty, even though it was supposedly a non-smoking room. The temperature control was another joke; it did nothing other than alter the fan speed. I was so disgusted, I left after one night and found a room around the corner, at the Hampton Inn on 8th Ave. that was FAR superior, much to my amazement.

According to the price on the door of the hotel room ($*/night), we got a really good deal on Travel agent . If you want to be in Times Square or near Broadway/Off Broadway showsor subway you really can't beat the location. The concierge was fabulous - the desk workers were polite and helpful. - the rooms were clean and comfortable (though small -- but it is New York!) Security was a little lax (no one ever really questioned us when we breezed through the lobby area off of the street) but we never felt unsafe. Would definitely stay here again if we were able to find as good a deal on price.

The walls in the hallway & our room were dirty. The room smelled like mold. Several machines in the fitness room were broken (pedal missing on the bike, cable broken on weight machine). Staff were helpful, very secure. Great location, close to all Braodway shows. Shared my concerns with the hotel management. Assured that they will work on these issues. However, they can't possibly miss the dirty hallways and rooms, etc.
